The manual states:

Units have three SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) choices: Standard, Aggressive, and
Cautious; these affect how your units act and react. Combined with the experience level of the unit, and some randomness, a unit will continue to follow orders, halt, or withdraw when faced with contact with the enemy.

It sounds like an Aggressive stance would make a unit continue to accomplish its movement order even if it came into contact with the enemy.

Standard sounds like a unit would stop its movement order if it came into contact with the enemy.

Cautious sounds like a unit would withdraw if it came into contact with an enemy unit.

However, I really don't notice a difference with the SOP stances.

Could someone please explain them further.

also, is there a command that is similar to the "Move to Contact" order from CMBB??

Last first, no move to contact order.

You have described SOP well except that units will not stop because of contact.

What will happen is that the unit will try to carry out its orders. If the enemy starts shooting, the unit may withdraw depending on all of the above.

To piggy back on j2ds answer, the reactions your unit have for the different SOPs is also based on how much of a threat they percieve the enemy to be to them. They won't necessarily withdraw from if they don't think the enemy can hurt them.

thanks for clearing it up.

Hi jmcd30,

There isn't an exact match for move to contact, but Advance with a Cautious SOP will approximate it.

While I really like the Move to Contact command in CM, the cautious SOP is great for recon in PCO.  It allows a quick move up and on a significant threat, a withdrawal.  That is something even CM2's expanded order system on waypoints that CM still can't do right.
