Brandle -> Aircraft Cruising speeds (5/19/2011 1:22:03 AM)

S!

I noticed the I-153 cruises at 180, the LaGG-3 at 254 and the Yak-1 at 153. The Bf-109F-4 cruises at 327.

Should this Yak cruising speed be fixed? If so, should someone continue to review that type of data and consider it important?

Thanks and congrats on the great job on this.

Yes, cruise speed for Yak-1 doesn't look right. The most important function of cruise speed is that it is together with endurance is used to determine the range. But of cause it would be good to have more appropriate values.

OK, I had a feeling it could worth reporting. I will use this thread to focus on the air war data in the game and offer suggestions.

WitE Data:
Soviet I-16 ty 24 (2X100kg bombs) Max speed = 292, cruise speed = 185, climb = 2818, alt = 31827, range = 143
Soviet Yak-1 (2 X 100kg bombs) Max speed = 354, cruise speed = 153, climb = 2736, alt = 32811, Range = 187
German Bf-109 F-2 (dropank) Max speed = 373, cruise speed = 328, climb = 3154, alt = 34000, range = 191
German Ju-88A (1000kg bomb) Max speed = 275, cruise speed = 225, climb = 925, alt = 27000, range = 418

Can you please tell me:

Are max and cruise speed in miles per hour or kph? I think mph
Is climb in feet per second?
Is alt maximum altitude?
Is range in miles?

Thanks

You can have them displayed in both system in editor. In game imperial units are used - mph, feet per minute, feet, miles.

ME 109 F4 Data is not right also Max speed was 388mph..and its climb was much higher the has just been copy over from the F2

General note here: If you disagree with any of the data in the game could you please cite the source(s) which is the basis of your disagreement. Just saying a number doesn't look right or you think another number is more accurate isn't much help to us.

Thanks

Yes, this is known issue as it was created as copy of F2 and armaments were changed.

Brandle -> RE: Aircraft Cruising speeds (6/10/2011 11:58:29 PM)

My main sources are:

Black Cross Red Star Vol 1,2,3
Complete Osprey Series of Books
Graf And Griswalski A pair of Aces

Most of all, a pair of people named Warg and Faustnik from the IL-2 community who know as much as anyone on these topics.

On page 35 of Black Cross/Red Star Vol 1 we read about KG51's Ju-88's attacking Kurovitsa Airdrome and wrecking I-153bis' on the ground. 164 IAP MiG's and I-16s were routed there to intercept and 66 ShAP's remaining I-153's took off and joined the fight quick enough to dispatch a Ju-88, who just dropped his bombs, within sight of the airfield. That bomber must have been low but it still could not get away. To me, this means the cruising speed of German bombers cant outpace early war Russian fighters.

Another concept is Russian oxygen in planes. The I-153 could set great altitude records but at the same time, most Russian fighters were stripped of their excess to lighten them up. I can see a MiG with an altitude of 30k but many others might be restricted to lower altitudes. What I cant be sure of is : Will this matter? Maybe only cruise speed, range, reliability and durability make a difference. At this point I am just throwing suggestions out there and making sure I am reading your data the right way.

Let me make sure we understand each other, I am not saying anything or anyone is wrong. I dont know if what I am suggesting is even of interest to the people who may do something about it. I cant test the results and I dont even know how to play the game well enough to employ the data we are discussing. HAHA!

Clearly, I have issues. It just so happens, I enjoy IL-2's unparalleled supplement called SEOW. I work on this exact data to enhance my experience over there and I figured I would offer this to this community. By experience I mean getting my tail whipped but at least I know my plane had the right range as I plummet into the countryside.

S!

Can anyone tell me why my changes are not being saved once I adjust in game data?

I save it, the date on the campaign file gets updated to the date and time of my save but the aircraft data stays the same.

Denniss -> RE: Aircraft Cruising speeds (9/25/2013 7:23:38 PM)

You either have to update generic aircraft data as well or change the scenario type to locked data (changes to aircraft will only affect this scenario then).

JG54Emil -> RE: Aircraft Cruising speeds (9/28/2013 12:37:10 AM)

I made changes in Excel saved in as _aircraft.csv.
Loaded the _aircraft.csv in editor.
Saved all again in game format.
And voila, I have the changes in the campaign.

Brandle -> RE: Aircraft Cruising speeds (10/14/2013 10:57:55 PM)

interesting paragraph from Black Cross Red Star vol 1

page 72 In 1941 the Germans were ill prepared to sustain the losses inflicted by the tenacious Soviet resistance. After 9 days of war, 699 German aircraft, including 286 bombers, had been lost. Soviet claims match these figures 613 shot down by fighters, 49 by AAA. after 1 month Soviet losses = 7564 aircraft,German = 1284 or almost half the original force
