kirkgregerson -> Romanian air not flying to support Germans? (5/20/2011 5:25:34 AM)

So is it WAD that Romanian air can't fly missions to support German units? Done multiple tests with Romanian airfields only a few hexes away from the defender and they are not flying? And yes, it's far south of the minor no cross zone. Please tell me this is not WAD...please.

[:(]

If so, I'd like to know the historical basis behind that decision. In fact, is that the same with all axis minor air-forces?

Not clear what kind of missions you're talking about. Section 16.3.3.4 of the manual says that Axis Allied air groups can only provide ground support to battles that involve at least one unit of that nationality (although the provisions in the same section about how Sov GS works are completely wrong, so who knows...).

This is not WAD.

Quite common issue with Axis Allies air groups is that they have much lower amount of ready vs max, so you need to set PCT to fly to very low value.

Could someone please tell us how air support is supposed to work? The manual says one thing, in a previous thread is was stated that Stavka air units will support front units if they are in the closest airbase to the unit (but this is demonstrably not correct), now this is also different from what is in the manual...

Smooth and nicely.. :)

Seriously there were changes done to air support in recent patches, which should be reflected in the notes. The main idea is that system selects the nearest "valid" (the one which can be a staging base with non zero active groups). After that all groups in the strike are measured to be aligned by the same air hq with respect to the staging base (it may change in the future to be more HQ oriented, which would require extra coding work)

There are very many other factors which are influencing groups participation and some of them random and can't be predicted.

Also there was couple of bug discovered and fixed recently. Hopefully it will get released shortly.

Thanks for your response, as always, but I'm not sure that I understand...for example, if a Stavka airbase is NOT the closest to some Front's ground units, is it supposed to provide GS to that Front's units? From what I have seen, this is currently how it works.

Also, I think I'm confused about the "intersection" of ground support and fighter intercepts. For instance, during a ground battle, you can sometimes see air support lines going to the defender's hex and the attacker's hex(es), presumably ground support and fighter intercepts, respectively.

I guess that the defending air forces get the benefit of both the GS escorts and the fighter intercepts of the attacking GS? And conversely, the attacking air forces get the benefit of the GS escorts and fighter intercepts of the defending GS? And I guess that all of thes planes (offensive and defensive ground support and fighter intercepts) appear in the combat results screen?

It sounds as bug we discovered and fixed recently.

Yes, it may go both ways. Attacker ground attack/w escorts + defender cap and defender attack/w escorts + cap. So far there is no separation on the battle reports screen.

Perhaps in the next patch there can be some updated wording how air support is organized for the Soviet side; players seem to have more confusion and questions than clarity.

Can you specify what you mean by air support and what aspect of it is not clear?
