well...without going into messy details....my partner left me this year for a younger model that she had started seeing. She wanted to do the whole "friends" thing of course which included continuing to work together with our horses. I am not doing the 'friends' thing but i have been continuing to go to the place where she is very generously allowed to keep her three pets free of charge (only footing the cost of hay and feed)..mainly in order to keep seeing the mare, who for some reason seems to be attached to my sorry a$$.

Its a wierd...uncomfortable situation....usually i show up at night, well after i know my X has left to go home to her new life. I try not to advertise my presence but a few nights ago i made the mistake of deciding to clean up the Mare's appearance. She allows me to clip her without tranqs or other means of persuasion (which always p/o'd the X off because mare won't let her work on her without a fight). On the subject of manes however, even I can't get away with pulling her mane without her getting pissy so we've been forced to use "cheaters" to cut her mane which even on a good day, looks terrible. Doesn't help that i'm out of practice. The end result was better than the long stragley mane she had, but not super pretty either. Knowing my "X" is an anal retentive perfectionist, i left plenty of length for her to "correct" my work which i knew from long experience would not be up to her standards (noone's horsemanship is when it comes to her)

At worst...I expected maybe a nasty note......or a text'd shout telling me to not mess with her animal(s) again like that. The attached image is what i found instead the next night. I feel very bad about this....can't even generate any real anger at my X. My poor mare has no mane!!!!!!! She shaved it completely off which i can only interpret as a serious FU gesture in my direction. I'd rather she had left a nasty note telling me to stay the **** away. I figure after this incident that i really should take the advice of 99% of my friends and as Tom Petty once song....."not come 'round her no-more" That or i need to just sneak in on occasion and brush and run. The owner of the property has told me i'm always welcome there, but legally my X owns the horses. Like i said....its an awkward situation......and I won't have Uma suffer for it.

Ouch! Whata B*tch! Taking it out on the horse in a fit of jealousy. Will she consider selling you the mare?

I wish you well, breakups are hard. My divorce about drove me to suicide, but it all worked out wonderfully in the end (for me)... the "ex" has had nothing but hard times and misfortune since. Sour attitude towards life and people tends to leave you that way! Gene is a wannabe cowboy back in Indiana and you can just imagine how my having a ranch and horses is driving him crazy! Just hope he continues to stay away, but my oldest son is getting married next June so we're going to have to interact for that <yuch>.

Just hang in there, things will work out for the best. [:)]

I don't know honestly if she would sell/give her away. Certainly the horse is no use to her due to her condition and lack of chemistry with her (she refuses to ride her for that reason alone....would probably get bucked off) Thats why she got Uno, horse #3 who's only 5 but has his own challenges, being green as hell, has a nasty temper if stired to life and a powerful buck to match.....oh and only one eye. [:D] Ty, the dorko.....is 20 now and is semi-retired. He has a ton of Combined Training/dressage experience but can't do as much anymore as his legs/back won't take the pounding. X can't afford to train/board like a normal horseperson so she's stuck between a rock and a hard place.....and its very expensive to do so out here, which is why she does this full self care situation on someone's property.

Sadly for me......having lost my home due to said breakup....and also losing my job, I can't afford to take her or get her the surgury she needs to make her ridable. Only working part time at the moment and may be relocating soon anyway.

Sad story alltogether Nikademus, been there and done that, it's the reason I've been absent for a couple of years on this forum here. [:(] 
Oh well, life goes on, it may suck sometimes, then again, there's more fish in the pond where she came from. And ofcourse, there's still your loyal wargaming community [:D]

The secret of my "success" has been to move forward from every "failure" (LOL) with an adventurous spirit and a positive attitude. Don't hesitate to break out and do something different, change careers, move to a new location, don't let your past tie you down and don't hang around in a bad personal relationship. I can honestly say that life just keeps getting better for me every time that I strike out in a new direction.

My biggest regret in life is that it took me till age 42 to gain the courage to quit a secure, but increasingly unhappy career in corporate America and to leap out into the unknown and build my own business from scratch. Once I did that, I've never hesitated to take chances and to follow my heart and intuition. This latest move into retirement and ranching is just an extension of my philosophy of life that began with that first big decision at age 42.

In these troubled economic times, we all have to be ready to strike out in new directions with positive enthusiasm. Hunkering down and just trying to survive in place is a losing strategy... you've got to be proactive. Just some advice from someone who has survived some real life challenges and came out on top. [:)]

Whoa... just had a friend call me from Kayenta and told me that word is buzzing around that Pinon school district had two teachers raped and one murdered yesterday :( Two guys in a white SUV from Chinle with a wildcat license plate on the front... pretty detailed for a rumor.

Saw a couple of strange Facebook postings that now make sense if this rumor is true, but no one is talking specifically about what happened.

Trying to contact friends now to find out if they are safe.

Scary Stuff [:(]

You know, it is easy to dwell in the cybersphere and forget that we are all people at the ends of the keyboards/monitors. But threads like this one remind me that we are a community, or perhaps communities. I've been increasingly impressed by the social merits of these online forums we gamers hang around in.

UPDATE: Not quite as bad as initial reports, but bad enough. An elementary teacher answered her door around 2 am and was abducted at knifepoint, taken out into the country and raped by two men (actually former Pinon students) then dumped out of the car way out in the boonies and was found by the police trying to walk home a few hours later. The two guys had both just been released from jail and were out on parole... long criminal records.

The victim did lead a rather active "partying" life and was not unused to people popping in at all hours of the night to drink and party so she opened the door at that late hour without hesitation. Turns out the rapists had been at some of her parties back when she had a rather disreputable guy living with her so she casually knew them.

Meanwhile, a lot of people are angry about the lack of security in the Teacherage and are ready to form vigilante patrols. I can confirm that security there is a joke. They don't even answer their cell phone in the patrol car - you could never get hold of anyone even for something simple like coming to lock up the gym after a school fund raising activity. I hope this will be a wakeup call to the District Administration to upgrade security. They've been ignoring complaints for years.

I'm just glad that no one was killed and that it didn't happen during the day and threaten the children at the school.

When I spent my time in MI in the army (1969-1972), I still had to qualify with an M-14 and later an M-16 even though I was an intelligence analyst sitting at a desk. Shot Expert on both. It's been a few years, but I suspect I can still put a hole in someone at 300 meters [:D] I still remember the kick from that M-14, but the satisfaction of dropping a target at up to 400 meters on the range when you could barely see it is something I'll never forget. Also not forgotten is a few decibels of hearing loss that resulted from record firing 90 rounds after I dropped my earplugs scrambling into the firing pit. I couldn't hear anything for about 24 hours but a ringing. Of course, later riding around in helicopters with no hearing protection finished the job. My exit physical revealed the damage and I've been collecting a 10% disabilty ever since. Would rather have my full hearing back though in lieu of the modest pension [:(]

Still waiting on my daughter and son-in-law to bring me an AR-15, shotgun, and a sidearm from Guam that they promised. Hopefully that will be this fall. Meanwhile, I've got the six dogs, my American Longbow, and a polycarbonate Bokken (Practice Samurai Sword) that makes a heck of a good club. I am pretty vulnerable, I guess, living alone out here on the ranch, but I don't think any criminal types would know that.

Under estimating your vulnerability is far worse than over estimating.

Obviously I don't really know you personally, but I have always enjoyed your posts, and hopefully will continue to do so for a very long time to come.
