Do any of you still play Silent Hunter?

In simulating the Pacific War both UV and Silent Hunter compliment each other.

UV is a great game to play on the strategic/operational level.

While Silent Hunter: Commander's Edition, places you in the role of a US submarine commander whose career spans the entire Pacific War (from Dec 1941-1945) and the entire Pacific theatre.

It's an older sub sim, but the graphics and gameplay are still superb. . .

There is nothing like engaging in a fierce carrier battle in UV near Guadalcanal, and then switching to SH, and stalking the Japanese troop and supply transports, or sailing to the Japanese home islands and trying to sink a carrier or battleship. . .

SH is still on my hard drive, and I occaisonly get a chance to play it.

Gang:

I have it, but it won't run on my WinME system - try as I might.

Any chance of Matrix taking a swing at reworking that old SSI title to function on WinME or Win2000?

Just curious... :)

There is a Silent Hunter 2.

But I hear that it has "problems".

There is virtual squadrons playing more historical campaigns (sadly, no online play in SH). It gets lot more interesting that way.
Check:

about Pacific Thunder campaign.

Silent Hunter is one of those games that has become a permanent fixture on my hard drive.

UV will become another permanent game. . .

Played tons of hours of SH when it came out. There is nothing like the tense excitement of just having let go a spread of torpedoes at a BB and then diving like hell with the Japanese sonar pinging all around. Or sitting it out while the DDs criss cross your position dumping everything thay have on you and your chief letting you know the pumps cannot keep up with the water leaking in and repairs are going to take a few minutes longer.

In some instances it was a little to easy to come up with a big score. And it was annoying when you were just sitting on the bottom and you would jack up the time compression but it kept getting reset to 1-1 when a DD got out of hydrophone range and then came back in and you were told you acquired a new enemy ship.

Haven't played it in a long while. Probably won't as long as UV holds my interest.:)

I made a mod for Silent Hunter I that let your sub move at 10 times normal speed. I hated having nice juicy targets get away just because I was in the wrong position. The only problem was that you also used up fuel at an incredible rate. Still, it was fun to run down a surface contact once in awhile. :)
