arras -> AI -well done (5/23/2011 8:21:10 PM)

I have spent some time fighting the German AI in 1941 scenario and I say well done. Who ever coded that part of the game did very nice job. It is the best AI I saw in any GG games so far and most of the others. And AI in GGs games was often their weak spot.

I do not know how it was coded, if some algorithm was used or something else but AI can actually make quit nice pockets. Not the big strategic ones but it can encircle and trap several units in nice small pockets.

It seems also to change air doctrine. I do not know if it is just my impression but AI seems to change it from time to time and manage to surprise me. I might be wrong however and it can be just coincidence. But if AI air doctrine is responsive and react to situation than nice done...

One question I have however, it seems that AI ZOC cost bit more to cross/enter. I find it harder to cut those spearheads on initial turns than it is against human. Is my impression correct and AI gets some help here? (playing on normal)

Thanks for the comments. Gary programmed the AI. AFAIK there is no AI bonus where moving into AI ZOCs cost more. This is based on morale of the moving unit. If the morale level was changed from 100, then the starting units may have stronger or weaker morale.

OK, thanks Joel. And my congrats to Gary on his AI :)

Yeah, the AI is great. I upped the difficulty in my ongoing GC to 125 across the board for the Axis and 100 for me, and had a shock when the AI managed to pull off an almost exact reenactment of the Kiev encirclement without me being able to do anything about it. I'm sure I could have played better if I had known the AI was capable of such a feat, but still, I was seriously impressed. I lost 5 entire armies in that pocket.[:o]
There were several other smaller encirclements after that and I was in deep trouble until the mud came. The AI did better than the Germans did historically.

On Challenging, the AI has played very well as German thus far in a GC (now in the blizzard). It even conducted a credible blizzard defense, frequently withdrawing, counterattacking, etc.

During the 1941 summer campaign, the AI got to the very gates of Lgrad and within a few hexes of Moscow. My only complaint with the AI is that it really does not seem to know what to do down south; in both AI GCs I've played so far, it has really floundered down there (in my first game, on Normal, it never even managed to take Vinnitsa). It also pulled off a couple of largish pockets, although mainly because I was rather cocky after I crushed the AI on Normal.

Hope you are talking about v1.04. Must give it a try as from memory the German AI used to leave HQs and airbases wide open...

Yep, 1.04.16. I'm on turn 75 now and so far I have not been able to displace any HQs or air bases without having to defeat at least some combat unit first.

56ajax -> RE: AI -well done (6/23/2011 12:27:22 AM)

Umm just start 1.04.30 beta GC 41 against German AI...

On turn 2 so far I have displaced 1 German Inf HQ, 1 LW HQ, 1 Airbase and 2 RR Construction units....perhaps the AI needs some adjustment

Wild -> RE: AI -well done (6/23/2011 12:52:00 AM)

Yep. The AI for this game is very impressive. Much better than it's predecessor War in Russia.
Mind you, a poor Ai didn't stop me from playing that game about a million times, maybe with the good Ai in this game i will be able to play 2 million times.[:)]

jomni -> RE: AI -well done (6/23/2011 6:27:42 AM)

Great AI but some complain about it for not being historical (Russian AI).
