ScooterV -> Air group training (6/1/2011 1:24:36 AM)

If an air group is not doing anything else, is there any impact on fatigue if set at 100% training?

dereck -> RE: Air group training (6/1/2011 1:34:06 AM)

I could be wrong, but my experience is that they still accumlate fatigue.

Sredni -> RE: Air group training (6/1/2011 6:16:07 AM)

They will accumulate some fatigue, depending on their experience level. Lower xp pilots will go up to 20-30ish fatigue when set to 100% training, 0 range. 50+ xp pilots train a lot less and accumulate less fatigue.

This fatigue doesn't matter. Over the years of training you might only have a couple ops losses to training. I only turn off training (or greatly reduce it) to stop fatigue from building up if I anticipate high fatigue missions in the near future. Like if I'm going to move a unit I'll turn off training the turn before to let fatigue fall a bit before they conduct the high ops loss prone transfer mission.

dr.hal -> RE: Air group training (6/2/2011 3:24:37 PM)

It does increase fatigue, as I've check it out. However a great counter to this would be to increase the number of pilots over the number of aircraft in the squadron. I always have about 10% more but like it as high as 25% more than the base number of pilots (that being one to one with the available aircraft). Also reducing the "range" of training to zero seems to help, but that's anecdotal, I've not tested it. Hal

USSAmerica -> RE: Air group training (6/2/2011 3:48:48 PM)

Setting the range to zero for squadrons on training does cut the fatigue way down.  SOP for my training groups.

ScooterV -> RE: Air group training (6/2/2011 3:52:23 PM)

Well, that makes sense, but there is no reduction in the training effectiveness by doing so?

If not, I have a LOT of squadrons to revisit, lol

USSAmerica -> RE: Air group training (6/2/2011 3:56:02 PM)

No reduction in training effectiveness from setting the range to 0.  That still gives them a 46 mile wide hex to train in.  [:)]

ScooterV -> RE: Air group training (6/3/2011 9:04:38 PM)

Is there a list somewhere I'm just not finding that defines what each column is in the pilots status and experience screen? Some are obvious, a few I can't figure out. All I can find in the manual is just that it lists their stats. Am I just blind or on the wrong page?

jeffk3510 -> RE: Air group training (6/3/2011 9:15:24 PM)

I believe setting your range to 0 also helps with ops loss..

Too kind.[:)]

But newbies must not be misled. I am not a dev and most definitely do not know everything. The most knowledgeable are the devs in their respective areas of responsibility. Thankfully quite a few of them regularly post in the main and various sub forums of AE on those issues which fall within their purview.

ScooterV -> RE: Air group training (6/4/2011 12:02:01 AM)

Yep, thanks for the info!!! Most were obvious, but that LowN and LowG perplexed me. Now I know what it means AND the threshold as well.

I also wasn't sure if "Air" was Airfield Attack or Air-to-Air.

With so many Devs active and involved here, do they also look for things like this to improve the documentation/manual? Well, other than assuming it is already there and I'm just blind and is ALWAYS possible :)

As far as I know there is only one developer (michaelm) active at this time to further enhance the code.
Unfortunately it seems noone is working on the docs, except Michael doing the Update Notes which come with each new release.
The fast pace of development - and the efforts of michaelm who never seems to tire - makes it difficult to update the docs, let alone produce a new manual. Simply not enough time and manpower.
Fortunately the devs who worked on the product in the past are still active here in the forums and do all they can to help, as you pointed out.

Another question on training groups.

If you have a unit set up just to train pilots and you pull pilots out of that group and put them in the general reserve after they hit 70 for expertise, such in “Air”:

How do you get untrained pilots into the training group to replace them?

I have used both automatic and manual options under pilot selection and then hit the add pilot button the pilots pulled in are the exact same pilots I just sent into the general reserve. Since I put the pilots into the general reserve if I go with an “add veteran” option (Why a veteran to a training group is a tad beyond me) I wind up in the general reserve pool with the same guys I just dumped in there to select from. I don’t want veterans anyway, I want rookies with zip specialized training.

How do I get a pure rookie pilot, just out of flight school, into my advanced training groups to replace the trained pilot I just put into reserve? Do I do nothing and the computer will dump in the rookies on later days?

Thanks.

Use the manual option and change your setting to pull pilots from "Any" to "Replacement". This setting is to the right of where you click to get pilots. This should give you the recent flight school grads.

When sending a pilot to General Reserve, you must left-click the pilot's name twice; left-clicking only once sends the pilot to Group Reserve. Pilots in Group Reserve will be listed on their groups Pilots list with their name in grey text, and a number (from 1 - 8) in the Delay column. Any pilot with a delay of 1 can be made active by right-clicking their name. Also, when using the "Get Pilot" button, any pilot with a delay of 1 will be made active, then a new pilot will be sent to the group. Thus, if you left-click a pilot once, he will be sent to Group Reserve with a delay of 1; immediately using the "Get Pilot" button will make that same pilot active again.

To get new pilots from the Replacement Pool into your group, do the following:
1) Check the Pilots list of the desired group; if there are any pilots with a delay of 1, either make them active (right-click) or send them to General Reserve (left-click)
2) Once no pilots in the desired group have a delay of 1, use "Get Pilot" to add new pilots.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the replies.

No, none of this works.

1. Yes, I am clicking twice once to get pilots into the group reserve and then a second time to get them in the general reserve.

2. If you hit the manual button the type of replacements (i.e. trained through elite plus) is greyed out.

3. I am not playing the beta upgrade to the game, rather I am playing the stock AE with the latest offical patch. When selecting the automatic option there is no option to select "Replacements" the options are Any, Trained 50+, Rookie 60+, Experienced 70+, Veteran 80+, & Elite 90+.

So, I guess to get out of the pilot replacement circle one needs to have the beta version of the game installed or exhaust the reserve to force a flight school fill.

Thank you for the replies!

Are you able to use the "Get Pilot" button with any group, or do you always receive trained pilots from General Reserve?

Would it be possible for you to post a screen shot of your training group? If not, could you list what the group name is, and how many pilots are currently assigned to the group?

"Any" is the correct option. To the right of "Any", choose "Manual" instead of "Automatic".

Where you click to manually add pilots, to the right under MIA there is an option to choose pilots From.... For that option, pick "Replacement(xx)".

Then when you click to add pilots, you will pick from the flight school types. This will work under the latest official patch because I'm using it. [:)]

Yes, that fixed it!
