The title says it all. Although I do Like PC:O, it lags terribly on my machine whereas CMN runs great even considering more 'advanced' graphics. It really is a put off for me and one thing that I hope gets looked at.

junk2drive -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:00:58 AM)

What settings are you using for PCO?

I have seen people post the opposite so I think it is hardware specific.

phantom67 -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:01:37 AM)

Try turning off the grass. It gave me a huge FPS increase, although I admit it shouldn't be necessary considering I just bought a brand spanking new i7-2600k with 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM running with my slightly aged 4870X2 -_-

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:08:49 AM)

I am using these settings. CBN runs really good even on the higher settings for me. I thought I would be unable to play it yet it is Ostfront that gets the least time because of the framerate issues.

junk2drive -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:09:05 AM)

That's the strange thing. Some people with older modest rigs are happy with what they see and people with top end rigs are disappointed. PCO is not going to look like ARMA or some other FPS or TOW.

I have a single core 2.7 with 2gig of shared ram and loading, processing, mouse movement, are all fine.

junk2drive -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:09:47 AM)

Try turning off AA and AF.

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:20:11 AM)

Turned them off, didn't really help. It's a shame really.

Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 @ 2.53 GHz
6 gigs ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
Win 7 64 bit

It's an older laptop. All current drivers.

Its not that we're disappointed in the graphics, we're disappointed in the performance GIVEN the graphics.

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:35:43 AM)

+1 ^^^^ I don't mind the graphics at all and think most are very good actually.

junk2drive -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:36:33 AM)

I'm not sure what performance means. If the animations are smooth and the mouse actions are smooth and I am getting 20 FPS am I disappointed?

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:47:39 AM)

I really don't understand your question.  I am trying to tell you that in fact the animations are not smooth and the scrolling/panning is very jerky. I only compare to CMN because I bought both games the same week and are similar products.

junk2drive -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 4:55:42 AM)

That's what I'm trying to say, my system is lower end than yours and runs smooth. Plus you have dual cores which are used by PCO but not CMBN.

I do remember someone posting about either CMBN or PCO that they had all the difference in the world by trying a different screen resolution. They just got lucky I guess.

Problem is, I'm not even getting smooth animations or mouse movement when I have the grass on.

Yoozername -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 5:59:21 AM)

I gave up trying to run PCO on a WIN XP machine.  It runs fine on a WIN7 laptop.  I run CMBN on the XP machine and it looks much better than the WIN7 laptop.  Go figure.

FNG -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 10:14:15 AM)

I switched from wide to normal and that helped boost the FPS for me.

Try Display Shadows OFF, Display Weather OFF, Limit Infantry ON.

Could you also post a DxDiag for us please?

What in-game options do you have turned on? What kind of processor do you have, as PCO is mainly CPU-bound.

Regards,

- Erik

pinwolf -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 5:12:50 PM)

Try it out with no gras or low detail quality.

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/6/2011 5:19:50 PM)

Well I'm gonna keep trying as I do love the game and think the extra effort is worth it.

How does one do a DxDiag?

I know just enough to mess things up.

Thanks,
Mo Reb

HintJ -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/7/2011 4:12:34 PM)

I made a very simple map w/not too many objects and am getting 6(!) to 16 fps during replay. Once the replay is over, it jumps up to around 60 fps. Yes, it is a three-year-old laptop, but the settings are low: 16bit 1024 x 768, medium settings.

Do you mean the replay or the calculation? It's normal for FPS to drop while its calculating the turn, it's also normal for it to drop if you are looking at the most complex part of a map in terms of units and terrain. Is it varying by that much for the same view?

- Erik

HintJ -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/7/2011 4:30:47 PM)

It is the replay. During calculation I really don't care what the framerate is.

I think even during replay the LOS of relative spotting is always being calculated so that you can click on any unit and have the live LOS and relative spotting going on.

Templer_12 -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/7/2011 9:09:05 PM)

There are videos on the net the calculation goes wusch-wusch-wusch.

Oh I wish, I would run with me so quickly. [:(]
Unfortunately I feel the "long" waiting time during the calculation as a great fun break!
I hope the team continues to work to improve the performance. [:)]

junk2drive -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/8/2011 5:09:18 AM)

Things I've seen about 3D games in forums:

I turned off sound or updated sound drivers and the game is faster.

I changed screen resolution and/or bit depth and game is faster.

Laptop video drivers impossible to find. Have to come from manufacturer of laptop, not video card. Newest ones are many years old.

Turning off in game or playing battles that don't have, grass, trees, smoke, sound, decals, shadows, water, moving trees or water, shell craters, make the game faster.

What is the size of the map? Performance is directly affected by the map size. It sounds like your performance is being affected more by Main memory or CPU cycles than by video. (that being said, I wish it ran faster too -- right now I'm running it with a 8 yr old laptop).

Thanks
rick

HintJ -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/8/2011 1:05:35 PM)

It is a 1K map. It has much fewer objects than most 1K maps, but it runs much worse but only on playback. In fact my map runs worse than any other map in game. Removing grass or shadows has no real effect. Neither does increasing/decreasing resolution.

I think mobius is correct for LOS calculations, because during planning phase 60 fps is quite slick, but what makes my map different from most is the very large field of views: an opponent is often spotted long before he is in range. The height map is hand drawn, not a DEM.

Erik Rutins -> RE: I Wish This Game Ran Better Than It Does (6/8/2011 1:31:34 PM)

LOS is calculated during the calculations, it is not recalculated during replay. I think we'll have to actually take a look at the map to figure out why it is performing so poorly. There are many options in the Map Maker and it could be that you found a combination that the game doesn't handle well.

- Erik
