newmanovci -> Supply/Re-Supply question (6/7/2011 2:07:05 PM)

Okay, I've hunted and hunted for the answer to this one, but I just can't find it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I thought I understood the Advanced Game supply and re-supply systems, but maybe not. For example, at the start the July 1861 scenario (playing as CSA) there are the following forces:

1) Franklin province, VA; Army of the Northwest + two unattached brigades; Logistical Staff Fair; no railroad in province; supply priority low; re-supply value 2.

2) Kenawha province, VA; one unattached brigade; no Logistical Staff; no railroad in province; re-supply value 3.

3) Osage province, MO; Missouri State Guard; Logistical Staff Great; no railroad in province; supply priority low; re-supply value 4.

Why does the AotNW only get 2, when the Kenawha unit gets 3? Is rail and road supply cumulative? In other words do units that qualify for both get 3 supply a turn (ignoring for the moment other factors)? And why the 4 in Osage? According to the manual, a Logistical Staff of level 'Great' isn't high enough to add a supply bonus. And Osage is miles from any rail line.

I'm obviously missing something...[&:]

(By the way, even though it's too early for me to say definitely, this game is looking like being a superb one!)

I'd have to check the manual, but from your numbers it looks like each is getting the re-supply value worth of supply. If you're asking why each province gets what it gets, I think those are static values, so that would be a developer question. These answers may be completely wrong, but I do know going OOS is a very bad thing...

Thanks for the swift response. I'm not sure though I understand what you mean by "it looks like each is getting the re-supply value worth of supply". With the supply overlay turned on, I can that most provinves get 3 resupply a turn, irrespective of what the supply consumption is (in my examples above, the Osage guys are only using 1 supply a turn but getting 4, whilst the Kenawha guys are getting 3 and using 3).

I wasn't aware that supply varied according to the province type though. That's understandable, based maybe on terrain, but is that info in the manual?

After further head-scratching, I think I might have the answer. It looks like it's to do with Forage. To apply this to my cases above:

1) Franklin province, VA; units have more than 5 supply, so do not forage; thus resupply is 2 (1 for land supply, 0 for forage, 1 for low supply priority in the container).

2) Kenawha province, VA; unit has less than 5 supply, so it forages; thus resupply is 3 (1 for land supply, 2 for forage, 0 for supply priority because no container present).

3) Osage province, MO; units have less than 5 supply, so they forage; thus resupply is 4 (1 for land supply, 2 for forage, 1 for low supply priority in the container).

I reckon that's it.

Thats it. See what I get for not looking in the manual. [:(]
