besides opening move in 1941, how can you spot good opportunities to make exceptionally effective airfield attack? seems to me, they rarely are worth a shot before going on an offensive.

There are no other opportunities; just hope the Luftwaffe makes some timely interdictions and supports key attacks/defenses. After turn 1, you have done everything you can with it; it is now up to the AI.
