PirateJock -> PBEM setting? (6/20/2011 1:19:37 PM)

Which of the 4 settings do people use when playing PBEM?
  • Direct Fire
  • Defender Assault Designation
  • Withdrawal
  • Advance
In particular, do you let the computer handle direct fire?

Cheers

With one player, in Carentan, we both go through all our phases and send the turn back.

With another, in San Pieto, we exchange after each phase.

I guess it just depends on the players.

I hope that answers your question.

Hi Sabre1

How do you go through all phases before sending back a turn? I haven't seen that as an option.

Cheers

Yes, I let the computer handle everything. The problem is that PBEM's would take much longer if numerous other transmissions had to be done during each phase.

Now, if I were playing in a rated match, then that may be another story...

PirateJock,

Ask Joe98. He set the game up, and we send turns back and forth after almost each phase.

In my other games, I set them up and we go through all our phases, and then send the turn.

If you want to set a game up (Lord help me I said I was done with this game) I will give it a go with you.

If you have the time, I can almost always make a turn every day. Oh to help you along, YOUR MOTHER WEARS COMBAT BOOTS! [:D][;)]

As a test, I set the computer to handle withdrawls. All other phases are handled manually.

Sabre1, in your Carentan game, in the Direct fire phase, did you select which units would fire and their targets? Or was that phase automated?

That phase was automated IIRC.

JMass and I complete all the phases each turn. The games run much faster (translate: I lose quicker). [:D]

PirateJock,

I didn't get a PM yet? Sent a PM and email to you.

PirateJock -> RE: PBEM setting? (6/27/2011 4:02:26 PM)

I've now got games going where the computer is only handling withdrawal & advance and others where the computer is doing all 4 options. And boy does it make a major difference. When the program is handling all options the game flows much better and MUCH quicker and I don't feel you lose out on too much control of what's happening. For example, when it's your turn you still do your own direct fire and assaults; the game takes the defender's role.

Cheers

Of course Joe, you can concede, and we can start over. [:D][;)]

For those interested, Joe is kicking me around in the San Pieto scenario.

BTW, I didn't pay attention in a game with JMass about supply centers. I'm sure I'm going to pay for that oversight.

This is why I "play" wargames and don't do it for a living. lol

Hi Joe

Yes I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that.

I'm happy to concede our games and we can set up a couple of games with the fully automated setting. Don't think I'll be able to batter my way through on Ruweisat Ridge and worried about those *ghost* units you've been telling me about on Longstop Hill ;)

Cheers
