Is it possible to make a carrier capable unit into a carrier trained unit?

Yes!! It will have to be on the carrier for an undetermined amount of time. It will suffer more op losses until this happens. I have seen it happen after a few months time.

yeah, 2 or 3 months sounds about right. I just converted a bunch of vmf units into carrier trained and 2 or 3 months sounds about how long it took. ish

However there is a known bug which has been corrected in the Beta M8 patch where if you split a squadron, have the sub squadrons become carrier trained and then recombine them back into the original squadron, they all lose the carrier trained desgination and revert back to just being carrier capable after recombining.

So if you do this, either a) use the M8 (or later) Beta patch or b) use fully formed squardons versus splitting them.

Actually, I noticed so little difference between trained and capable units that I no longer pay any attention to which is which and don't even bother worrying about training them. Supposedly operational losses are higher for capable units but not to the point where I have noticed.

They really should tweak it so that carrier capable units suffer severe OP losses as we are basically talking about units without carrier training trying to operate from ships which would not be very easy. But as it is now, I don't see enough of a difference to bother worrying about it.

I agree. The amount of ops losses, or lack there of, should be adjusted higher; however, it should not take 2-3 months to get carrier trained either.

I read somewhere (patch?) it was 60 days.... I would put capable pilots on a CVE and let them do CQs until they were "trained".

No, I think carriers training courses took at least that long if not longer. Anyone know?

I don't think it's worth worrying about either way since it's very much an abstraction anyways. I kinda doubt if we want to deal with certifying individual pilots as carrier trained though so I'm happy with 2 or 3 months. [:D]

Carrier takeoffs and landings are a normal part of basic naval flight training to include Marine aviators, see the Sable and Wolverine conducting carrier training on Lake Michigan. Now the training is conducted in dedicated CV capable trainer aircraft first and then reaccomplished in the RAG in their respective combat aircraft. The pilot is then considered carrier qualified and is sometimes sent directly from the RAG to a combat unit on the carrier, but that is not the prefered path. Normally the pilots would go to their new unit that is in between deployments first and then the entire squadron goes through refresher training cruises that are called work ups. These normally last only about a week at a time but is conducted at least a couple of times before the cruise date.
