Houtje -> grand campaign (6/27/2011 11:27:45 AM)

Am finally preparing to dive in the GC, Allies vs. IJ AI - but am wondering which update I should use (since I'm bound to be stuck with it for the duration); the
last official patch is 1.01.06i, I believe. Should I use that one, or wait for the next official patch, or use a Beta-patch?

Thanks for any advice,
Houtje

Upgrade to 1.01.06I, then apply the latest patch if you as k me. A lot of stuff has been added in that beta versus the latest 'official'one.

Beta is very stable and the number of new features is amazing. You'll defnitely enjoy the beta.

There should also be no reason why you can't later upgrade to what ever the next official patch will be when it is released.  Don't worry about having to finish a game on the same patch level that you start it on.  [:)]

Ok, thanks all. Think I'll use the Beta then.

Yeah, no problem with the patches and I started my campaigns right after the game came out a year and a half ago.

Playing against AI you can update anytime you wish.
And even playing PBEM you can, as long as you and your PBEM partner follow the update rules.

Whatever, as you want to play against AI (as I do) I strongly recommend to update to the latest patch (currently 1108p1).

will do, rainer, thanks.

You're welcome Houtje.
There are many people around here eager to help and to share experience [;)]

But it will cause quite some confusion regarding new rules etc. I cannot remember that I upgraded strategy games while playing a campaign at all.

I agree with USS America. I avoid the beta patches, even if they appear to be stable for most players in this instance. Twas not always the case, I can attest. Stick with the official patches-they've been vetted pretty thoroughly.

Numdydar -> RE: grand campaign (7/2/2011 12:54:23 AM)

I totally disagree as the betas have some pretty major changes that really help the play of the game. I am using the M8 version with NO issues and have been for many turns.

I even updated a PBEM game to K6 (?) to help fix some issues we were having and that has worked wonderful too.

inqistor -> RE: grand campaign (7/2/2011 7:08:10 AM)

With latest official patch you will face few bugs, which were fixed in beta:
1) Aircarfts onboard CVs do not rest
2) Some ships do not return to pool after disbanding
3) Pilots appear from air, if their pool is empty (they should be pulled from trainee pool), this is serious problem for Dutch, Philippines, and China
4) Some LCU Devices can change to different type, and you can end with LCU unit with only support, and no Infantry Squads.

The last one is impossible to repair, so to avoid this, you should use beta from the beginning.

Numdydar -> RE: grand campaign (7/2/2011 5:04:55 PM)

Besides the above, being able to turn on and off stockpiling of fuel, supplies, oil, etc. at bases is a godsend. Which is only available in the betas too [:)]
