Sprocket62 -> Edit/Modify tiles question (6/29/2011 2:37:25 AM)

I want to try and modify terrain tiles. I think someone mentioned this subject before, unfortunately I didn't subscribe to the thread and can't find it now. Does anyone remember this?

Thanks

Do you want to alter the look of the tiles or do you want to rename them?
You can rename them by changing the strings in the englishgametext.xml file and then renaming it to "yourscenarioname"gametext.xml. There are examples of this in the Directive 21 scenario files where we renamed tiles and swapped out tiles for other patterns.

Note that the "MyScenarioGameText.xml" goes into the scenario folder, not into the scenario graphics folder as one would normally think.

I actually want to edit the tile. I've settled on the Telu Mod II graphics (Thanks Telumar, nice work). I just wanted to try and make the damaged bridges tiles transparent or translucent like the cloud tiles. I opened the files in Paintdotnet, but am unsure how to procede. It show up as a grid of damaged bridge symbols.

In PAINT.net it's very simple. Just open the png file, from the menu select Layers -> Layer Properties or press F4. In the popped up small window you can adjust opacity. See the screenshot. If you want to do more i suggest you use The Gimp, which is a free, open source Photoshop alternative or you use something like Coral, Photoshop etc.

I played around with this a little bit and found that the graphics look best just the way they are. [:)] Thanks for the help.

Do'h! So that's why my altered terrain descriptions weren't showing up in the game.

Could you do me a favor & translate these three phrases into German?

"wooded marsh"
"USA prohibited" (as in United States of America)
"CSA prohibited" (as in Confederate States of America)

Thanks,
Bill

Telumar -> RE: Edit/Modify tiles question (7/13/2011 10:56:13 PM)

"wooded marsh" - "bewaldeter Sumpf"
"USA prohibited" - "USA nicht erlaubt"
"CSA prohibited" - "CSA nicht erlaubt"

I would leave CSA as it is, most people will know what CSA means in this context (assuming the common wargamer being interested in history in general and having a certain educational background).
