TommyG -> loading the Long Island (7/12/2011 12:15:29 AM)

I'm sure this thread exist somewhere, but I can't find it. I can not load ac onto Long Island. It's in San Diego harbor, disbanded, and empty. I've tried to load several different squadrons of less than 16 ac, carrier capable, Marine squadrons, either F4Fs or SBDs, to no avail. I've tried both tranfer to ship and loading as cargo. I've tried in port, docked, and at sea. I've tried cargo, transport and replenishment TFs. What am I missing?

Are the squadrons attached to a restricted HQs?

Long Island = AK set to "air transport"

I always park it somewhere and forget about it

Don't park the Long Island.  It's a useful ship.  Don't believe me?  See Q-Ball's AAR vs. Cuttlefish, in which Long Island played the key role in a move that turned out to be the turning point of the war.

There's no other way to quickly get Marine squadrons onto atolls early in the war. In my games, the LI is almost always at sea running someone to one island or another.

Try putting it in air combat (CV) TF and transferring the air squadrons instead of loading them. This always works for me.

Rainer -> RE: loading the Long Island (7/12/2011 6:21:46 PM)

Try this:
create either a ReplTF or a AirTranspTF and put Long Island in that TF. Make sure the TF is docked.
Select an Air Group which is not restricted.
Select "Transfer to docked Ship" and select Long Island.
That should work.

If they are carrier capable squadrons, I prefer to leave the Long Island TF undocked and transfer the squadrons to her in that state. This will mean that the squadrons are fully operational and can fly to their new base from a distance.

Nevermind I misread the thread. Sorry about that.

So do I, but the OP had a problem to transfer that way.
He never said if the group to be transfered is restricted though (which would explain why the group did not transfer).

changing to air trasport did the trick. The units were not restricted. Thanks for your help.

Glad you made it [:)]
