IS2m -> ARD's (7/13/2011 10:20:07 PM)

Hello all

I am trying to figure out how to use my ARD's. I think that they are big repair ships, but I can't figure out how the silly things work. Also, they have a supply capacity of 55 points, but I cannot load them! What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated....

You just put them into a port, and they will repair major flotation damage if you put a ship into "repair ship" repair mode. Prior to the beta patches afaik you needed an AR too in the port.

The supply capacity for these guys is a misstatement in the database. They actually have a capacity of taking in a ship of up to 55,000 tons for floatation repairs. They don't need any on-board supply to do that, and can't load any.

Check this out. The game throws me new surprises all the time.

That is a new message to me as well. Nice. Just out of curiousity can you tell us how much damage it sustained?

Not serious, and certainly did not slow her down as she only moves one hex a turn anyways.

Chris21wen -> RE: ARD's (7/14/2011 8:34:20 AM)

I've had more than one situation were an ARD will not repair a ship with major floatation damage dispite having an AR present and not being above 55000t. This seems to happen in size 5 or less ports.

I'd better add - and with loads of supply, and with Naval support, and with an undamaged ARD, and with an undamaged port. The only thing I've not tried is using a Fleet HQ.

d0mbo -> RE: ARD's (7/14/2011 12:04:55 PM)

Do they always have a capacity of 55,000 tons on the allied side? Perhaps, Chris, you have one that has a lot less capacity?

I only play japanese, and their single ARD has a capacity of a whopping..... 2.000 tons :) Even the larger destroyers can't have their flotation repaired ;)

pmelheck1 -> RE: ARD's (7/14/2011 12:40:06 PM)

I think that the ARD's have a capacity if you view their stats.  Some are large and some are quite small.  They can only help one ship also so I don't set several ships at the same time to use them and concentrate on one repair per ARD at a time.

Only thing I've noticed is it can take a LONG time. My first thought when seeing them was substitute for a ship yard but this is most definitely not the case. I use them to stabilize damaged ships at the front lines before sending ships to repair yards (lower major damage if I can in a non insane time so they don't sink on there way to the yard).

They had to be very useful to the Allied effort.

I've been in and out of a floating drydock twice. That picture makes me wince at how exacting the block placement had to be to get three in and set, leave needed hull valves open to hoses, and not bump on the lining up. Three COs with a high pucker factor.

Couldn't imagine them doing that these days, Heath and Safety and all that.

All the Allied ARDs are 55K.

On rerflection I should have added that this problam may have been rectified by the latest official patch as I have not had the problem for a while.

As was said earlier ARDs will only rerpair floatation damage. I've made this mistake of confusing floatation and major engine damage. Having moved a ship to port with an AR and ARD and put it into Repair Ship I've forgotten this crucial fact and wondered why the ship would not completely repair.

Moral, check the ship specifically and don't rely on the list of ships for an indication of major engine damage.

APA American Legion in the pic below has 8 major engine damage and therefore cannot be repaired by the facilities at Manus. Level 7 Port, 130 Naval support, 98K supply.

vinnie71 -> RE: ARD's (7/15/2011 11:05:37 PM)

Playing Da Babes - there are quite a number of small ARDs available (2-3000 tonners). I have to say they are quite useful since they are perfect for repairing subs and small ships. Coupled with ARs, one can easily keep subs and light forces operating from the frontline ports for long periods without need for redeployment to home ports.

Larger ARDs are also useful, but in the end they can only do so much. When a large ship takes damage, it normally takes damage in all sectors, not just floatation. This means that in the end, such damaged ships still require home port repairs...
