Hi

getting into the game but the combat mechanics are a mystery to me and I wonder if I've missed something important somewhere. There doesn't seem to be anything specific in the manual.

As an example, what are the numbers that display (eg -2 -4) when you are about to engage an enemy unit?

it is the expected loss.
a green -2 means that the allied unit COULD lose 2 "hit points"
it's stats but you can have surprises

Chris if you ctrl-left click on a unit in range to attack you will get a breakdown of the combat scores. If you changed to 2button style its ctrl- right click I believe.
