Hello everyone!

The planned PBEM game vs Vaned did not materialize. Nothing dramatic there but few obstacles did rise.

I did sleep over and thought that it might be fun to start a game as bad guys (Japanese).

Since being complete "newbie" as Japan I think most suitable scenario for me would be may 1942 start.

This mod is done by Nikademus and I think his efforts regarding this one is very valuable to the community.

I have send him a PM asking whether this is the latest version available at Scenario forums.

Once I get that confirmation I can start wondering what on earth was I thinking! [:D]

I guess the first thing would be to download the Witp tracker!!! After that it is anyones guess!

I do appreciate all the information and help in this journey. This is new uncharted terrotory for me.

Well, actually played once as Japan in classic Witp but that is it. Never even started vs allied AI.

That does not mean that I'am not going to give the best possible resistance to my opponent who I know is very good allied player.

I have been following Nemo's AAR stories and he is regular contributor there and also in the forums.

Hmmmm, it feels odd to play as Japan but lets see what we can cook up here!

I guess BANZAI or something.... [:D]

Thanks. I know he is good player and will have more than my hands full.

I think though that the best way to learn new stuff is to go againts top players.  Looking to give him run for his money though despite my lack of experience as Japan.

I will start looking into the japanese side once I have the latest version of the Nik mod.

Quite a few things to be decieded and need to study how the economy works. Thus will take that part of the game with open eyes.

Thanks Rob! Yeah, your advice merits have definately been in poor standard! [:D] ...just kidding.

Well, I did cancel the game vs Vaned so this is going to be it.

I just hope he hardwig hasn't learned any nasty tricks (good way) by reading all of these AAR's floating around the forums.

Going to start developing the turn and checking situation once I know the Nik mod 1.00 version is the way to go.

We shall see how many months before I do crash the economy of Japan! [:D]

I got the word from Nik that 1.00 version is good to go for PBEM games.

I send my opponent the following HR set and once we agree upon those I will start planning the game.

* 2 Day turns
* AAR's (restricted for both us until the game ends)

* PP must be payed for restricted units (Manchuko / India)
* If China will fall we need to discuss how to handle those troops there.
* No resourse bombings at China (Both sides)
* No 4E naval strike missions below 15k feet
* Max. alltitude for any type of an aircraft 30 000 feet
* No reliable torpedoes for allied submarines
* No auto expand / repair factories and no auto upgrades for ships and aircraft
* PDU ON

First thing would be to study how the economy works and download setup Witp Tracker. I can confirm that haven't payed any attention for this part of the game.

Than next step would to create "battle plans" on what do and how to do it.

Lets start with the economy part of things first though and worry about the game plans later.

I really do not want to crash japanese economy and it is a bit "scary" part of the game for sure.

In general would talking about game plans.. well would love win / stabilaze in China and also want to release some additional troops into Pacific for the upcoming allied juggernaughts.

That is talking in general terms though and haven't looked into any details how to achieve that one in this scenario.

I bet the first turn will take few days to complete than again this is not an sprint but an marathon.

A couple of questions to all JFB "gurus" [:)]

I had an quick glimpse of it and seemed to cover a lot of the economical stuff involved in this game.

Another obvious question would be the usual amount of escorts for resource TF's and do you make runs with larger convoys or prefer smaller one. (I know there are as many answers as players)

Need to read that thread with time once I start working on the actual turn.

I haven't looked on how the infantry units are placed around the map so don't know what we would be able to do initially. It seems though Port Moresby is still in allied hands and Burma area definately could use some "boost".

The Chinese front seemed the same as in original scenario.

A lot to read, deciede and do once I actually start working on the monster turn.  I should be able to start "work" tomorrow.

Mike Solli's AAR has a bunch in it.  Dated a bit due to the updates, but still pretty good reference.

Convoy size for me is predicated upon smallest port (generally the sending port). I'll make the largest convoy that can dock. That minimize the use of escorts which are a premium.

That should definately do the trick since was looking for genereal "ideas" regarding the economy system.

I know Mike is most likely the best player in that area.

Hmpf, that convoy size makes sense. Never have had to pay that much attention to it before.

The game itself is good to go soon. Few details to work out.. ie. night bombings and whether we keep combat animations on or off.

On the IJ side, you have to manage everything well as you have little excess.

Appreciated Pax. I gather with IJ you mean ground units?

The goal would be to release additional troops via PP from China and Manchuko area into Pacific theatres.

Whether I win or neutralize China.. well that does not matter. The goal would be achieved and that is important.

Really looking forward of getting my feet wet on the japanese side of things too.

I have only played Japan in WITP and not AE. It WITP I would always go and take OZ to keep the Fosters safe for me. About the only advice I can give you is to consider what invasions you would hate the most as an AFB and then go there. Ceylon? Take it. Noumea? Kick the French out. That being said, your scenario starts after the Allies start getting some goodies so you might not have those options.

That is an good advice but first need to check where the troops are. I have only glimpsed at this scenario.

The good news is that will start working on turn 1 tonight since we have agreed settings/HR's now.

I would strongly consider using Beta M3 (anyone past that means you cannot go back) as there are lots of enhancements that are helpful.

Not knowing what you have at start, but many xAKLs will need to be converted to PBs, Lima Class AKs to AKEs (about 6), temporary conversion of Ehima and Toho Class xAKs from cargo to troop capacity for any planned invasions. Get all the Std A, B, C, and D xAKs to Japan so when June 1st arrives, you can convert to TKs.

Good to see you here and what I have been following you turned one nasty japanese player! That is meant in a positive way.

The work is about to be over and heading home soon. Need to do some home stuff, than time to do the turns. A couple of allied ones and this monster to get ongoing.

I did read a bit Mike's AAR... now I will keep that one in my desktop monitor while doing this.

Those are very useful tips you posted. Sincere thanks.

I think will start workibg on the turn in following formula:

1, Economy changes
2. Resource TF and potential upgrades for the ships
3. Study what troops I got and where they are placed in this scenario and start moving supporting troops
4. Deciede where to defend and get those bases done
5. Check what offensive options we got keeping in mind that this is may 1942 already.
6. Organize IJN warships into effective battlegroups
7. Deciede how to maximize the efforts on China and check Manchuko.
8. Doublecheck everthing!!! [:D]

Click end and wish for the best. Also install Tracker into laptop.

Damn busy first week at work! I just had the chance to load and setup the game.

To put it mildly this look "a bit diffrent" and not just talking about the red colours.

I have fully free weekend ahead of me so this show will start than.

Here are the settings and HR's for this slaughter festival:

* 2 day turns
* Restricted AAR's for both sides
* PDU ON
* Reinforcements +-60 days
* No reliable torpedoes for allied submarines
* No auto expand / repair factories and no auto upgrades for ships and aircraft

* PP must be payed for restricted units (Manchuko / India)
* If China will fall we need to discuss how to handle those troops there.
* No resourse bombings at China (Both sides)
* No 4E naval strike missions below 15k feet
* Max. alltitude for any type of an aircraft 30 000 feet
* No naval bombings on ports and airfields (Both sides. Only city bombing runs are allowed) We agreed to keep common sense with these raids.


The turn is now loaded and now just need to check what is what. Plenty of units out of position etc.

I did look around for an 1h 1/2m and did few minor troops movement orders.

Did not touch the economy or such. I know need to expand most likely vehicle productions and increase / change some aircraft engine + model productions.

I look further into those... overall this should be fun once the initial burden / changes are done [:)]

The 1st turn is now send to Hartwig.

Wow, it felt a bit overwhelming and did not do all that I was planning to first. I need to load the turn into Tracker once it arrives back so I can get better picture what is what and what needs to be done.

This is kind of an recap what was done:


ECONOMY

* Only expanded vehicle factories.
* Doubled one of Zero factories and an single Nate factory was converted to produce Zero fighters.

The rest of the modifications will be made in the next turn. It seems a bit daunting task so better not change much initially.

NAVY

* A lot of submarines were send out to hunt. The ones at home islands were send to their designated target areas.
* Created appropriate Carrier, Battleship and Destroyer divisions.
* Quite a lot of AK's/AP's were send out along with Tankers. Most of them empty since there is not that much supply to go around initially.

Things are a bit scattered initially so few ships need move around.

Really need to get more escorts converted!!!

ARMY

* Training was setup
* Released few armoured units and artillery. These are send into action on China.

Here too troops are scattered around the map and many of them need to be moved. The lack of proper BaseForce units hit the eye immediately.

GAMEPLAN / STRATEGY

* Made some initial decisions but not sure whether to implement these into action. Fist we need troops moved into proper places.

OVERALL

Well.. A lot of thinking for new japanese player. The turn flow should definately increase once I get the feel of things and everything into motion.

My bad.. A6M2 Zero production. It was an small factory so around 10 planes per month.

...but I double the A6M2 production in one of the main cities since you only have +100 in the pools.

Yeah, need Oscars but need tracker and the turn first.

I did "babysteps" since don't want to screw up immediately.

Also noticed that Tojo's are not far away and really need to start producing them too as soon as they come online. That is an nice fighter until up until early 1944.

The SRA and DEI don't start with high stockpiles of resources but send out TF's (Tankers / AK's) so they arrive. I still have +500 ships on ports at Japan waiting their orders.

The turn is in Hartwig's inbox and he is doing the mass clicking currently. He is also moving houses so hectic times for him. No doubt!

However no hurry on that one since this definately is an marathon.

I have generated an general idea what I want to achieve and how to do it!

Now, have been reading a bit more about japanese economical side of things. It is still definately an "big mystery" for me! [:)]

Just wondering whether some of the more experienced player would take a look on the initial settings as an economy advisor?

There are few things I want to achieve and just do not want to mess that up by doing something too drastic initially.

Hello everyone,


The game has started and send out the 2nd turn last night back to Hartwig.

I have gladly accepted Dave's offer to give principle review of the situation and have made the following changes based upon those suggestions.

* Halted CV Shinano and some of the RO submarines that were coming up soon.
* Expanded the vehicle production. We seem to have big deficit here.
* The engine production was tweaked. Thus Hitachi amakaze production changed. I will expand HA-31, HA-32, HA-34 and HA-35 productions.
* Nakajima kotobuki changed to produce HA-35 engines.
* Halted GM Nell and Jake production.

I'am not an expert to give you guys better analysis of the situation. It is challenging though since bulk of the merchant fleet is on home islands.

There are ships now enroute to our resource centers but it will take sometime to get that going smoothly.

I can post screens from Tracker if you are intrested to see any particular area.

Also I think Dave can make better comments on this area as well.

As for how this AAR will be updated. I think an retrospect style might be an good change.

Thus I have decieded to post monthly recap / review of things that has happened around the pacific.
