phatkarp -> Your Favorite Unit (7/18/2011 9:13:21 PM)

One of the joys of PC is having that one unit in your campaign that repeatedly surprises and delights you.

For me, I have a very special 88. It has a hero attached to it that gives it +1 movement, which makes it incredibly useful. It eats tanks for lunch, and blasts aircraft for desert. I love my 88.

I also have two panzergrenadiers in halftracks that I commissioned for the Low Countries scenario. I intended for them to be my elite, "tip-of-the-spear" infantry. They have served that role in fine fashion throughout the entire war. (I'm currently starting the Kursk scenario).

What are your favorite units?

terje439 -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/18/2011 11:26:14 PM)

Hmm not sure but guess the unit I like the most is the Panther. Fast, kick both hard and soft targets behinds and can take a beating.
As to infantery I tend to upgrade them all to pioneers save two that are converted to paratroopers.

I find these sort of questions meaningless unless the scenario & side you are playing is specified.... and even then it gets meaningless at times.

Meaningless to you maybe. But I think quiet a few of us have favorite units. I too love the halftrack nebelwerfer. And the Panther G. What's the point. I love all German units.

dsawan -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/19/2011 4:08:29 AM)

fallschirmajger, baby. affordable when you cant get tank support and can knock out allied armor. esp if elite. That with the Pak 43/41 makes my day.

jomni -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/19/2011 5:00:25 AM)

I think the thread starter is talking about units in your campaign that you have developed an "attachment" with.  Where losing them will make you very sad and cry.

It is not about a type of unit that you like to buy.

I totally agree with you.

Must....resist....obscene....joke.........

phatkarp -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/20/2011 1:26:39 AM)

I *was* referring to units that you get an emotional attachment to.  The Russians just blew up my 88 in Kursk.  I could only stare at the screen in stunned disbelief.

And I admit that this thread is meaningless.  Does any of this have meaning?  Are we all just a dream within a dream?  Am I the favorite unit of some distant god, and my life just a game?

Chew on those questions, Obsolete.

You can tell me that Kings are your favourite unit. That's great, but now your playing a Polish scenario and getting your ass handed to you by your opponent and since Tigers aren't even available, how does that help you now?

HUH? Your remark about my age is vague. But I guess you "ASSUME" I am being childish?

I am just having a little fun.

SIGH.

PirateJock -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/20/2011 1:17:47 PM)

It's like relationships, you ask an apparently harmless question and before you know it ...

Longasc -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/20/2011 10:37:15 PM)

For some reason I have a ton of infantry and only 4 tanks in my 1939 campaign. I have 2 BF109F, 2 JU87R, 1 BF110D and 2 Ju88 and my level bombers never cease to amaze me. Maybe they are even a little too good.

My 13th Gebirgsjäger and my two Ju88 are my favorites. Though one of my BF109s got already awarded the Knight's Cross.

Filthy Pierre -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (7/21/2011 9:00:47 AM)

My 13th Gerbigsjager currently has 2 heroes. One gives a +2 to attack the other gives a +3 to attack. That is one seriously amazing infantry unit. I have developed an attachment to it for sure.

IronFist00 -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/19/2011 5:18:12 PM)

In my 1939 campaign, I received a SE Grenadier unit which I promptly renamed to the "1st Waffen SS Leibstandarte." I always give it first crack at elite reinforcements, over-strengthening, and gave it the 251 HT as soon as it became available. It eventually gained three heroes, +2 to attack, +1 to defense and +1 to movement. It is *the* tip of my spear, even though I have tanks that are technically better.

I first formed an attachment to it when I did Sealion 1940 and it helped me clear out London for the decisive win.

KerenskyLI -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/19/2011 10:35:26 PM)

KV-85, no question.  Which makes me especially angry it's not in Panzer Corps yet.

Rayduhz -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/19/2011 10:48:51 PM)

Tiger I. Always been a fan ;)

Razz1 -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/19/2011 11:24:10 PM)

My favorite unit is bouncing Betty above ^
She jumps and smashes the enemy tanks with her chest!

Hahah, technically she's a unit too, just not for Panzer Corps. [:D]

ImaginaryStar -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/20/2011 7:14:15 AM)

Basic Bf-109?
First Medal, first Hero, they made many of my decisive victories possible.

greykemp@gmail.com -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/21/2011 6:59:16 PM)

I'm still waiting for one. I don't design my own scenarios but I do play with force makeups a lot. I've started about 25 campaigns but never advanced beyond France so far...yeah, I know I'm crazy. The really interesting thing for me is the extreme rareity of awards and Heros. Normally, I don't see an Award before France and those are almost always Iron Crosses, which apparently don't do anything for the unit. I've see two Heros in the 25 early campaigns, both +1 defense. Is this normal?

Rood -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/22/2011 7:44:37 AM)

Your units get medals when they have enough kills, a kill here meaning reducing an enemies strength level (or causing long term surpression), so it's normal that you only see them around the 3rd scenario.

When a unit has a medal it can also get a hero. The stat bonus a hero gives is random and sometimes useless like +1 spotting for a artillery unit that's always 2-3 hexes away from the front line...

greykemp@gmail.com -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/27/2011 2:16:11 AM)

Does this mean it gets a Hero at the same time it gets the Award? Or does it mean a Unit with one or more awards MAY get a Hero at the end any turn going forward...limited to Heros = Awards of course.

jaggy -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/30/2011 3:48:03 AM)

I see the term "SE" in this forum and Slitherine's. What does it mean actually?

It stands for Special Elite and is basically a politically correct was to refer to Waffen-SS units. I rename all mine back to SS, keeping the same unit designation otherwise.

jaggy -> RE: Your Favorite Unit (8/30/2011 7:54:07 AM)

@VR_IronFist - Thanks for the clarification.
