Ermeton-sur-biert, pisciculture

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone have any information on the pisciculture pounds at Ermeton-sur-biert, in Belgium... primarily did they exist during ww2 or anything else anyone can tell me about them.

Did a quick Google - nothing found on the history of them

Quickest way to find out for sure : contact the parent village

I think they are Fish ponds,if you were to look in the general area i am sure you will find the reamains or still standing Priory or Monastery. These were used by the Monks to feed themselves and sell to the locals, well known in Europe and nearly allways in the vicinity of a Large ecclesiatical building.

The fish pond part is not in doubt, the question is whether or not they were there during WW2 - I guess the OP wants to create some maps for a WW2 wargame.

The problem with these fish ponds is that it's not a given they are really that old as there's at least one I know which is pretty recent ... so I did some Googling : the Ferraris map of the Austrian Netherlands of the late 18th century is online

Click on the square containing Florenne - Ermetton is in the upper right corner - and yup, there's a fishing pond right there [;)]

"Can anyone help dating these?"

1) I have dated her, she was my date, and I occasionally went out on a date with them. I only recall one instance of dating these, in that case it was "these irresistible girls". I don't know if this helps, but that was a memorable date. Perhaps you could take a poll regarding dates with these, to see if there was anyone who refused to date these. The answers on this thread seemed to be discussing the town, and fishing, presumably the site and circumstances of these dates.

2) If you want these phone numbers, try the white pages. You could call up one of these numbers at random, and if a female voice answered, work your way up to the topic of dating by stages. I don't know how much these ladies are willing to date nowadays, haven't been on a date of any type since 1982, but perhaps someone else can help.

3) It is unwise to ask these females their ages, but the things that they say are often useful for determining their information...

4) I have found that everyone is willing to give some help on something, you just have to find out what they know, and what they want in exchange for assistance. I would not ask anyone for help unless I really needed it, because any help often comes at unpredictable costs.

5) I've never been into canning, but my mother did it a lot. You put these dates on the jars to help with stock rotation. To write on glass, use a magic marker.

6) Actually I don't have any idea whatsoever regarding what you meant by the topic title. I guess that I am oblivious. Perhaps you would care to clarify the question, or anyone could step up to bat and take a swing at it?

Have a nice day, English is such a lovely language with its nuances of expression isn't it?

Well if the fish ponds were there in the Medieval era then they would be there in WW1 and WW2 wouldnt they?

I'm happy I'm not the only one wondering this. [:D]
