dbmsts -> Creating Airborne/Para LCUs (7/29/2011 3:51:20 PM)

Q1. Can we create an Indian/commonwealth airborne/para division? If so, how can we do it and what is it that will differentiate this unit from the other infantry divisions?

Q2. Can a unit with cdo/para sections which has a name like "3rd commando Brigade" but nothing in the name indicating that it is an airborne unit, can it be air dropped because it has these types of squads?

You need to find the Symbol entry in the editor for that LCU and set it to 13. 13 in that data field tells the game it is a parachute capable unit.

If I recall correctly, any infantry or engineer-type squad -- not just commando or parachute squads-- can be air-dropped, regardless of size, as long as the unit is classified as a 'parachute unit'.

Non-infantry device have to be size 7 or less in order to be air-dropped, and size 9 or less in order to be air-transportable.

so its the symbol field that differentiates it from the other units?

jcjordan -> RE: Creating Airborne/Para LCUs (7/30/2011 5:07:52 AM)

There is 1 div that when formed from the component parts forms into an Indian Para div in the game. I don't have the game loaded at the moment to say what those are.

What about this para-dropped Japanese tank unit? Can it be air-dropped? I have seen it in database, but have yet not seen it "in action".

Pretty much yeah, like others said, there are some devices that are just too large, but if you stick to a TO&E that is similar to existing para units, you shouldn't have problems.

Let me put it this way, while putting devices in that are too large can cause a para unit to not be air transportable, not setting the symbol field to 13 will garauntee it will never be a para unit.

I think all vehicles, Allies as well as Japanese, have a load cost "10" or higher, so none of them can be air dropped or air transported.

The size limit probably hurts the allies more: both the M24 Chafee light tank, and the 105mm M3 (short-barrel) howitzer were designed IRL to be air transportable, but cannot in the game, since the game engine does not allow for weapons or vehicles to be split or lightened for transport, then assembled on landing.

But it is easy to mod, if you want: just set the device load cost to "7" or less, if you want to make it parachute-capable, and "9" or less, if you want it to be air-transportable.

. . . and in order to be able to be para-dropped, the size 7-or-less device has to be in a parachute-defined LCU (symbol 13).

Can someone help me? How do I find the capacity of air transport units?

Max load for the Thalia, Topsy and Teresa transports are numbers like 2000, 2300, 1900. How does that translate in a number of squads??

Thanks

I confirm this procedure works. And it is also fairly realistic. If load cost is in terms of metric tons, then things of great values ought not be droppable. But many devices in the game are not defined at their actual weight. The values of 7 and 9 are somewhat incorrect: the actual value ought to be determined by the aircraft - not by the device being defined. But it isn't a bad compromise. And you can "cheat" if there is cause enough to justify it - define a 10 ton thing as 9 for example - and it becomes air transportable.

You can probably also redefine those air-transportable tanks as "squads", or lower its weight to 7, so they will be air-dropable. I am wondering what happens, when squad will have armor value...

"Load" value actually seems to be Device weight PLUS its crew.
