Annagil -> Amphibious assault (7/30/2011 9:31:25 AM)

Hi

Well, as an old addict, I've returned to play AE after a few years (the classic "oh well, just a few turns" line that turns in whole nights gone...) and I'm basically a newbie again so (after having tried the search function) a question:

I'm having an amphibious task force, it arrives at target, it does unload some troops... then the turn after it is a few exes away from target after having re-embarked all the troops. What am I forgetting? I place the TF on remain on station, unload cargo, but keeps being on its way back with all the troops (minus losses...) every new turn.

HELP!

A

Much, much more info needed.[:)]

However, as a general comment, a failed amphibious landing on an opposed beach will see the survivors of the initial landing reembarking and setting off, out of Dodge City.

Mumble
So it might just be that the forces I sent are not enough to hold the beachhead (might be, it's mostly normal AP and AK, so the unload rate is terrible) and the assault is automatically aborted?

On unrelated matters, it seems almost a different game since the last patch I played... already the wide screen support would be enough, but seriously, the changes over the last.. two or three years are impressive.

Sounds like you might get some benefit from reading this thread

just to get you back into the swing of things re amphibious landings.[:)]

VERY useful, thank you. It seems it is probably the low disembarking rate then.
Will have to move back a couple of days and disembark north of the objective and march. Pity, I had managed to win a cruiser surface combat in the meanwhile... a miracle, actually, I (allies) had 2 CAs, 2 CLs and 4 DDs against 4 CAs and 6 DDs and at night... lost one CA (and another one badly damaged) and a DD for 2 CAs and 2 DDs

If the troops are landing on an atoll, they will conduct a shock attack the very round they unload. If that result is bad (and it usually is if the defenders are dug in and only a few troops land the first turn), they'll re-embark and cancel the invasion. I've seen that happen several times in my CG.

Suggestion: select a TF commander with good land values and a higher aggression rating.
