DesertFox32 -> Two issues (7/31/2011 12:36:19 AM)

Hi guys,
I'm loving the game but I work in software QA and just couldn't sleep at night if I didn't report these...

1) When I set my screen resolution on the Configuration dialog to 1920 x 1080 (which is my desktop resolution) and hit Apply, if I return to the Configuration dialog, the resolution has switched to 1680 x 1050. I honestly couldn't tell you if the game is running in 1920 x 1080 or 1680 x 1050 (my eyes aren't that good), but it still doesn't seem to retain my setting.

2) When I am targeting units, the 'chance to hit' label varies if I de-select and re-select a unit. For example I can select a tank and target a nearby infantry squad, and the "tooltip" displays 'average chance to hit'. I then select a different unit and return to the original one. Now I can target the exact same unit and see a 'good chance to hit'. Not sure if the tooltip or the actual chance to hit is bugged, but wanted to report it anyway.

Ya'll keep up the great work!!!

PS I am using the latest beta update from a couple of days ago.  I know that issue #1 has been happening since the beginning though...

Number one could mean that your monitor doesn't like the setting and the game reverts back. Try a lower refresh rate with the 1920x1080. I have a 16:9 screen with 1920x1080 as native. The game wouldn't accept some of the other ratios that I was trying.

Number 2 sounds like a bug. Does it happen a lot? Does it matter if a unit is green or vet or elite? Does it always go from avg to good or other combos?

DesertFox32 -> RE: Two issues (7/31/2011 1:00:56 AM)

Just tried lowering my refresh rate and same thing...  I natively run at 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz so sounds like maybe an nVidia driver thing...?  I'm using a GTX460 with the latest nVidia drivers...

I had just started a campaign using the new update when I noticed #2 yesterday.  I had just started a new 1st Panzer Div ('41) random campaign and was playing on easy and I believe the briefing said my units were elite.  I can't tell you 100% for sure, but I believe now that you mention it that every time I noticed it actually did go from avg to good.  The whole reason I noticed it is because the initial assessment didn't seem right (firing across about 50m of open ground at some exposed infantry with a PzIV showing an 'Average' hit chance), so I tried de- and re-selecting the unit and it more agreed with what I'd expect.

I'm about to play a scenario so I'll let you know if I can confirm the avg-good idea...

I just played a while at 1920x1080 75htz with my ATI card while my desktop is 1440x900. Even though that is not a 16:9 I like the size for both the game and desktop.

DzrtFox,

Thanks for the notes. I know the resultions offered vary by the system. I don't have eitehr of the resolutions you mentioned available in my configuration. I do know this beta patch did add some configurations, so it's possible we need to look at that again and see what we can do.

For the second issue, you are correct, it shouldn't do that. At one point in the development we were working with a similar problem. We'll add this to the list of things we need to look at.

Thanks!
rick

Thanks Rick, you guys are the best when it comes to customer service and response....

As I mentioned, the resolution issue has been there since I first installed the game.  Since my setup natively runs at 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz, this has been an option for me since the beginning.  I noticed the same behavior the very first time I set the options on that dialog.  It's not a huge deal because whether it's running at 1920 x 1080 or 1680 x 1050, it still looks great on my system.

I played a standard scenario last night and didn't notice the behavior from #2.  I will keep an eye open for it, but last night everything seemed consistent.

One last thing, is it just me or do turns take longer to compute since the latest beta patch?  It's not bad but there is a noticeable difference.  Maybe it's just the scenarios I was playing but it was definitely taking longer than I remember to compute.  Not a big deal (especially if it's making calculations that improve the turn!) but still something I noticed...

It's really hard to tell. calculation time is pretty dependent on map used, and number of forces involved. So it might well be due to a difference in scenarios. But also there were changes made in the turn processing area of the code so it's possible.

Thanks!
rick
