kweniston -> Helmond map - path blocked (8/7/2011 8:02:25 PM)

Hello,

I noticed that on the Helmond map, a gap between hedges could not be entered by a Sherman tank, even though the gap seems wide enough to do so. Please find attached a screenshot.
I play the latest version mega update, with tigercubs datamod/metalmod intstalled.

Thanks for looking into it.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention kweniston. I looked at the map coding and there doesn't appear to be any map coding reason why this problem would be occurring. There is a 2 element gap between the "Large Hedgerow" elements that form both sides of that gap. A tracked vehicle should be able to move through the "Large Hedgerow" element so even if that gap is too small for a vehicle to move it'd just drive over the element. Passing it on to our Lead Developer to look at. Thanks again.

One thing that might be at issue here is Tigercubs datamod/metalmod. Our lead developer tested moving through this same gap you had trouble with and although the vehicle slowed (expected behaviour when traveling through a "Large hedgerow") the tank he was moving was able to pass with no issues. The maps were coded with a very specific elements file in mind. A departure that elements design may result in problems if all aspects aren't considered and taken into account.

If you want to have a look at the elements.txt file from Tigercubs datamod/metalmod look at column Y "Vehicle Move Tracked" and the row for "Large Hedgerow". The number in that cell should be anything BUT zero(0). As the header tip explains a value of zero in that cell will prevent tracked vehicles from moving through that element. It's possible Tigercub intended for this result to happen.

If Tigercubs elements.txt file has a zero in that cell you can either change that cell to another number (we recommend 24) OR you can recode the map(s) so any gaps between "Large Hedgerow" elements are wider than three elements. As our Lead Develper pointed out Most larger vehicles occupy a 9 element space (center element plus the eight surrounding elements) so a gap size minimum of 3 should be observed on spaces you want large vehicles to pass. Small vehicles generally occupy a 1 element space and can pass through narrower gaps in non-passable elements. You may also need to adjust the map graphic (BGM) to reflect this change(s) in coding as well so that the graphic matches up with the coding.
