zzodr -> Tanker sinks for no reason (8/20/2011 9:19:02 AM)

In my combat events file.
TK Vivi sinks....

1 hex off Esperance in convoy with 4 other tankers and 1 DD.
It had no damage, no enemy action and overcast conditions.

WTF

Anything like this happened to anyone else?

There was identical topic few months ago [:D]

There is chance for catastrophic event every turn. If tanker was loaded, it could immediately sink, because fuel exploded.

Or it could be unreported torpedo hit, with fuel explosion.

Terminus -> RE: Tanker sinks for no reason (8/20/2011 10:01:07 AM)

In English, it could have grounded or collided with one of the other ships in the convoy.

Ok thanks. I was expecting something a little more verbose in the events file I guess.
Maybe it was one of those storms like in The Final Countdown. [;)]

Check for this turn and previous turns ops report, these things are reported in the report without being highlighted during replay. Look for the name of the ship with your windows search in the whole save folder, and you'll find it pretty quickly!

They might have split up or they might have capsized;
they may have broke deep and took water.

PaxMondo -> RE: Tanker sinks for no reason (8/20/2011 3:57:38 PM)

Only on Lake Superior.  [:D]

When the witch of November comes early! [:D]

USS Henrico -> RE: Tanker sinks for no reason (8/20/2011 4:52:04 PM)

In my PBEM game I had a tanker sink off New Zealand for no particular reason that I attributed to grounding.

Other causes of tanker loss:
Cheif Mate stuck cigar smoking face into open ullage hatch.
Curious Ordinary Seaman peeked into ullage hatch, dropping steel chipping hammer into same.
Dumb egineers transfered too much fuel oil to port (or starboard) wing tank. Ooops! Ship tips over.
Dumb engineers burning or welding on (common) engineroom/pumproom bulkhead.
Dumb engineers, while buiding a putting green (on Captains orders) on #3 stbd wing tank top (ie:the deck), burned a hole there too!
Sewage plant malfunction due to excess accumlation of crew methane.
Captain is a IJN fanboy. Look for a RED TF in same area.

ilovestrategy -> RE: Tanker sinks for no reason (8/20/2011 11:39:16 PM)

The Captain being a IJN fanboy is the most plausible scenario.
