Originally posted by Ron Saueracker Useful, but needlessly dangerous in UV. It's an all or nothing venture, cover friendly TF with none over CVs, or the reverse.
Perhaps I should point out to say, I would not use a single Cv tf to provide LRCAP over convoys as you are right it is leaving yourself open. Example I would do is say a 2CV tf 1 squadron flies LRCAP , other on 70 - 80 percent CAP over CV's, or if had the aircraft would swap out 1 of the bomber squadrons for a fighter squadron and use the same way. When you think about it, using CV's this way defensivly is no more wrong than offensivly as if flying a strike you have many of your fighters flying escort and so not available as CAP. As we all know there are gonna be situations where convoys need some protection, but are outta range of friendly LBA. This to me is a solution I use, wether it is ideal ,I doubt it but it is a pretty horriffic picture seeing a whole convoy decimated because it had no support whatsoever.
