nafari -> Game Won't Start (10/20/2002 8:33:07 PM)

:confused:

Hi!
I can't get my SUDG to start at all. I've tried several times to reinstall the game, as well as start it from both the matrix menu and the actual .exe file, but all that happens is that the cursor turns into the hourglass, then turns back to normal. There is even no visible attempt by the computer to actually start the game. This is SUDG out of the box, without any of the patches. My system is a 500Mhz Celeron Hewllard Packard with a 64 MB PCI Nvidia video card and Directx 8.1.

Additionally, i downloaded the patches several times, and each time theres a pop up that says the program is running an illegal operation. heres the details:

It would be very nice if anyone out there can help me out! I haven't played the game in the while and am very eager to start playing again! thanks!

It sounds like it's having a problem with something related to your nVidia drivers. Have you tried setting your graphics back to VGA, then reinstalling the 30.82 drivers? If you feel comfortable doing that, it may be a good bet.

I'm not sure why the patches should care unless the driver glitch is generally interfering with other parts of your system. You might also want to take a look at the troubleshooting FAQ posted here - though it's for UV, the majority applies just as well to SUDG:

not really that computer literate, so i have no idea what you're talking about...but in either case, would help matters if i said that i have windows 98 and xp both installed on my computer...??

It might be helpful, if for instance the drivers were somehow mixed up. Do you have them on separate hard drive partitions (i.e. XP on C: drive, 98 on D: drive)? Have you tried applying the patch in both XP and 98 with the same results?

For Windows XP, try downloading and installing the nVidia drivers here, see if they help with the problem:
