Strike502 -> No PPs for 3 days now.... (8/25/2011 11:13:53 AM)

Not sure what's up with this. It's 1/26/42, only Baker, Efte, and a smaller Is. near Numona is lost and I haven't gained any PPs. Anyone else run into a similar problem?

Houtje -> RE: No PPs for 3 days now.... (8/25/2011 11:25:17 AM)

I assume you play as Allies. About PP's: did you forget to withdraw certain Air units or ships? Those will cost you PP's. Also, I believe insufficient garrisoning of bases (India, DEI) may also cost PP's (someone correct me if I'm wrong about this).

HansBolter -> RE: No PPs for 3 days now.... (8/25/2011 11:59:41 AM)

Insufficient base garrisons leads to partisan attacks which cause damage and award the other side 1 victory point for each hex attacked.

The most likely cause of no PPs is penalties for failure to withdraw units on time.

. . . and if it is January, the most likely culprits are US West Coast air units.

A couple of things to clarify:

1.  Neither side gains/loses Political Points (PP) for bases taken or lost.  You do gain/lose Victory Points.

2.  Both sides receive 50 Political Points a day.  You can lose political points for failure to timely withdraw/disband air units and to timely withdraw naval units.  It takes a bit of discipline and experience to keep track of the withdrawal schedule and to plan accoridngly.  For the Allied player, PP are so precious that you have to stay ahead of things - you can't afford to lose PP unnecessarily.

3.  Ground units are automatically withdrawn by the computer, so you can't "keep them."  Thus, there is no threat of losing PP for ground units.

4.  You can gain some extra PP by withdrawing some air units scheduled for withdrawal ahead of time.  This can be very useful, though it takes some experience to know when it makes sense to do this and when it doesn't.  But, for instance, if you have a squadron of P-40s at San Francisco set to withraw in five days, and withdrawing them ahead of time will give you 15 PP, and there is no threat of an IJ invasion of the West Coast in the next five days...it's safe to withdraw them to benefit from the extra PP gained.

Houtje -> RE: No PPs for 3 days now.... (8/25/2011 3:48:11 PM)

CR, on nr. 4: does one always get 'bonus-PP' for early withdrawal of air units? When clicking 'Withdraw' on units with an approaching withdrawal date, sometimes the number of bonus-PP is announced in the confirmation pop-up, but other times it is not.

Canoerebel -> RE: No PPs for 3 days now.... (8/25/2011 3:50:40 PM)

Sometimes early withdrawal of air units qualifies for bonus PP, other times it won't.  Whether you can get them is stated specifically, so if you don't see anything mentioned, the withdrawal doesn't qualify.

Thanks CR: good to know.

If you have PDU (player defined upgrades) turned on then you may want to consider downgrading your P40 squadrons before they withdraw so you can boost your pool of available P40s. P40s are in short supply for the first 6 months or so and you will eventully get a plethora of P39s (way more than you will probably want to utilize).

Thanks again guys. I'll have a look when I get home from work. Though I have withwrawn squadrons early and have gotten the extra PPs for some of them. I haven't payed attn to the ships. I'm still thinking old game where the Brits start loosing ships in Feb Mar time frame.

I'm glad I'm learning this against the AI and not PBEM.

HansBolter, you mentioned PDU, how do you turn this on? I've not come across this before...Hal

dr.hal

At your launch menu, where it says game options on the left hand side half way down it says Player Defined Upgrades, flip it to green.
