Thanks for taking the time to report this. I have duplicated this problem and I have corrected the error in the code. I'll get with Erik and Andrew at Matrix to see about posting a corrected "beta 2" version of the 1.0.4 patch next week.
This particular problem is restricted to the "Recruit 1 extra Spanish and Italian Unit" option. This crash will occur when you try to use this option and you don't qualify for recruiting both a Spanish and an Italian unit.
The work-around for this is either to cancel the "Questionable Play" dialog (and not use the option) or to play the card when you are able to recruit both units. Of course you are supposed to be able to use this card when/if you can only get one of the extra recruits, but in the meantime please use the work-around.
The error is unfortunately a really silly mistake which arises from the new "Undo Command Assignment" feature. I suppose that's why we have a beta phase for the patch. But I am sorry that you got hit with this.
