Pack Rat -> asterisk (1/3/2001 11:30:00 AM)

When a unit is spotted we see an asterisk, even though we can't see the spotting unit sometimes. Is this some kind of sixth sense? ------------------ Your mine is a terrible thing to lose. Pack Rat

Gidday Pack Rat. This has been covered in a another post. The good news is that there will be an option to remove it in version 4.6. Something I'm very pleased about as are a lot of gamers. Thanks for the polite reply, I see the thread now, although I would have never guessed it was about that. AmmoSarge and I are near the end of a battle (if I get a draw I'll be lucky ) and we've been talking back and forth about a lot of things. This spurred some thinking on my part. I don't think the asterisk should be for being spotted but for being near something. As Sarge brought up tanks make noise, green troops make noise, etc.. A pass or fail roll dependent on what type of unit and skill for detecting/evading the unit that is near. You still would have the enemy spotted line for troops you can see, but this would allow ambushes and evasion of ambushes. I doubt if this could be coded with this version, but Matrix as done wonders with it so far who knows but they. I haven't said thanks in a while either Thanks Matrix for making my life fuller. IMO, while on the surface having an asterisk because you are 'near something' may sound good, the only problem with that is, for the most part, we already have such a system. It's the sound of a unit trying to destroy the too-close unit. That brings me to another concern. Will the pause button ever work? I ask that, because since I cannot pause I "might" be able to remember out of all the non-spotted firing hexes, one hex where I saw fire come out of. If I could pause then I could write down the coordinates and deal with all those hexes the next turn.

I agree that the asterisk is unwanted and unrealistic in that it tells me I am spotted when I have no way to know that. BUT I can gain the same information by looking at how my units move. If the red hex ring moves with my unit, I am unspotted. If it moves in a lagging manner, I am spotted. Can that be fixed also? If not why bother with the asterisk or is there some reason to get rid of just it? ------------------ An old soldier but not yet a faded one. OK, maybe just a bit faded.

The same thing holds true Larry for artillery barrages. If the landed shot lingers after hitting you know you're close. ------------------ Your mine is a terrible thing to lose. Pack Rat
