DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (7/11/2014 9:09:33 PM)

8th may 44

Not what I expected.

Timor AO
Japs pull back.  My DDs will make it home.  Some of my DBs attack ships at Ambon.  We nail a DD at Ambon.  I believe that is had sunk.  We lose 40 DBs and fighters for this DD.  P38s on low nav find a TF full of AOs, looks like they are moving to Ternate. They don't drop any bombs that I saw.  They do put 6 shell holes in one that results in heavy fires 2 other AOs are hit with 4 and 5 shell hits.  I see no escorts with them.  HMM Ternate has 125 fighters present.

My DD TF from Darwin only moves 6 hexs.[&:] My CA TF is at its destination, only 8 hexs from Ambon.  I also have the other CA SAG close to Ambon.  I am thinking of running them into Ambon.   Am I pushing my luck here guys?  Give me your imput.

How far can Fletchers go in one phase?  Joc you know this answer.  Those AOs are 13 hexs from some Fletchers.

Rest of the map was fairly quiet.

Alfred -> RE: Attention to orders (7/13/2014 4:15:26 PM)

They might catch them in the PM phase.

Alfred

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (7/22/2014 3:26:00 AM)

Ok RL got in the way here.

Hi Alfred.  Thanks

14th May 44

Burma
Ummm Some air strikes and some Art attacks.  I am moving forces to the rear.  I forgot to upgrade units.  Yea I had units with 1940 equipment.  Stupid. I have made many mistakes in this game.  This is just one of many.  Still having fun though.  I am also bringing up other assets for future ops.

Timor AO
My DDs miss the AOs but did catch the rest of the TF that was ambused 7th.  We sink the rest of the ships and destroy another 1k worth of troops.  I lose a sub to Es. I had an AVP hiding at a dot base behind Koniu's line.  He found it and sunk it.  He also caught about 30 PT boats hiding and sunk them.  My subs sink a TK.

I can't remember what else has happened.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (8/18/2014 6:53:25 PM)

2nd June 44

Lots have happened and is going to happen.

Burma
I sent 4 Brit CAs into Rangoon harbor.  They found 3 Jap CAs and 2 CLs plus DDs.  I lose 3 CAs plus 2 DDs.  I also sent in 4 DDs to sweep LBs out of the way, these DDs show up late and manage to hit one Jap CA with a TT.  We damage several of the CAs and both CLs.  I think 1 CA is sunk and the CLs will need some yard time. Pretty sure I sunk 2 DDs.  Next day I sent some Fletchers in.  They meet a BB TF (where the hell did these guys come from)  We hit the Yamashiro with a TT and damage several DDs.  Not a good day for the allied navy.  But this was a needed battle.  Invasion fleet is moving in now.  I wanted to hurt the local surface fleet.  My TFs are 3 days out and are spotted.  Couldn't help it but moving on.  Subs are all over the area.

I have captured Prome.  This will help supply.  I have several more IDs moving into the area.  Koniu pulled most of his troops out but left 2 units and they were destroyed.  I need to establish a supply train to Prome from the coast.

Timor
I have put troops on Boela. Building that up.

Solomons
Paratroopers capture Torinkia (sp).  I am now trying to get my main elements to the base.  My TFs are 6 hexs away (spotted).  Recon showed Rabual has over 900 fighter and bombers.  I stopped the Fleets and sent in some CAP traps.  Small supply TF should make Torinkia during the nite. Koniu sent in a nav Guard unit to retake the Island.  I flew in parts of an IR.  They now hold the base. This turn should tell me how bad the fight will be.

Naru Island
I tried to sneak up on it and got caught, I withdrew the ships.

Marshalls
Invasion fleet had a small signet spotting today.  Tomorrow it will be 1 hex from Roi Namur.

Cant think of anything else.  Sorry for the spelling.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (8/20/2014 2:26:21 AM)

3rd June 44

Burma
I finally get that damn sub.  It will not bother me anymore.  I also lose a sub this turn to Air ASW another one is damaged and my mine fields have been found. We sink 3 ACMs at Rangoon harbor.

Solomons
Bombers come in at Torokina.  Most get by my CAP by going under it.  I get about 40 or so planes for a few of my own.  I do lose 4 xAKLs.  A CA TF comes to Woodlark.  I don't know if it was a bombardment TF or meant to attack shipping.  I didn't see any DL on my ships here.  My OH **** moment is when his CAs meet my CVEs right off the bat.  MY CVEs make a run for it and get out of the way then my CLs come into play.  I take minor damage to my 2 CLs and 3 DDs, I sink one DD and put a little hurt on several of Koniu's ships.  I am expecting more problems tomorrow.  I am sending in a BF and some engs. tonite the rest will move to Milne Bay.

Marshall Islands
My invasion TFs have move 4 hex in 2 days at full speed.  They are set to do not refuel and set to follow a SAG to Roi Namur.  We are 8 hexs from Roi right now.  With good DL on all TFs. I sent a DE almost to Ponape.  It is still floating.  They have orders to haul butt back to friendly areas.  I'm not for sure what to do with this invasion group.   I have no sign of the KB which scares me.  yesterday I sunk 4 ssx's.

Ambon
I TT a CL and sub takes some damage.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (9/4/2014 2:43:58 AM)

14th June 44

Burma
I have taken Prome, and Toungoo.  My troops are 1 hex north of Pegu and tomorrow will be one hex north of Rangoon. I am ordering a DA againist a single Jap LCU in the open.  I dont' know what it is.  Its only got 2k worth of men.  But I see movement arrow from Pegu.  Koniu may get a unit or more into the hex tomorrow.  I am sweeping and sending in almost a hundred bombers.  I plan on taking Pegu first.  I want to trap what he has at Rangoon.  I doubt Koniu will let this happen.  But I want to try.  We have both send some sweeps in the last few days.  I bailed on the invasion of Port Blair.  Jap Air ASW is a real killer in the area.

Solomons
I took Munda.  I am now planning my next ops in the area.

I took Roi Namur.  I am not planning my next moves.

I now have 5 CVs and 6 CVLs.  They will all meet up soon. Still no match for the whole KB.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (9/15/2014 11:03:59 PM)

24th June 44

Burma
Rangoon and Pegu are now back in Allied hands.  3 Jap coy units are destroyed while delaying the advancing allied troops.  Koniu has done this quite well. Japs sweep and bomb Rangoon after a naval bombardment.   Didn't got very well for the Japs.  I lose 3 YMS's  and about 70 planes, while Koniu loses around 180 planes with several ships that will need some repair time.  I have 2 DDs that will be in the yards for a week or so.  A lot of Jap units are parked in the hex SW of Pegu. Lots of troops and tanks, and its a river crossing.  I am going around the river to the north and coming down.

CentPac
US troops have also captured Nauru and we have a small base with some Cats flying out of it.

Ships are repairing and upgrading as I type.

Questions
LCI G will they only bombard when in a amphib TF unloading troops?  I had another question but cannot remember it.

I haven't tried using the LCI(G)s without having them in an amphib TF, but I suspect they do only work with a landing. Their bombardment is always reported as part of the landing suppression of enemy guns.

I can't remember the other question you had either![:D]

JocMeister -> RE: Attention to orders (9/16/2014 4:23:09 PM)

They will bombard when unloading supplies too!

Good to know, but I am guessing DOCUP wants to just bombard, not provide the enemy with the bandages too![;)]

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (9/19/2014 1:10:45 AM)

Thanks guys.  I agree with BB, I want to kill them not rebuild them.  lol.

My other question.  Can CV AC do a night city attack?

Mike McCreery -> RE: Attention to orders (9/19/2014 3:28:23 AM)

I created a LCI(G) group and loaded an amphibous AK along with it and tried to unload the cargo into an enemy port where I did not have troops in combat and the guns did not engage. I am pretty sure it would have worked if I had troops there though.

JocMeister -> RE: Attention to orders (9/19/2014 4:15:12 PM)

Ooops. Sorry, yes of course there needs to be own troops present. You canīt create a bombard TF with LCIs.

Should add here though that the LCIs isnīt that effective unless its a clear hex when it comes to causing damage.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (9/27/2014 2:11:39 AM)

Thanks guys.

Got another question.  I am planning another airborne op.  I don't remember how to calculate the number of planes needed.  My XO isn't helping me with a manual or forum search.[:D] Also I have an airborne unit with Daimlers. I didn't think these were droppable.

witpqs -> RE: Attention to orders (9/27/2014 2:16:12 AM)

That's easy. It's always "way more than you think!" [:D]

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (9/27/2014 2:27:54 AM)

Witpqs, Yes I know.  I found that out on my last small op.  I really need to know for this one.  Now that my XO has stopped fighting and went to sleep I can do a decent search.

Only thing I can suggest is to use the airlift capacity of the aircraft, converted to tons and divide that into the unit's load cost. So a C-47 carries 6000 lbs or three tons. To move a small unit with 720 load cost needs 240 aircraft loads!

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (9/27/2014 4:42:01 AM)

Nice BB.  I actually just found a thread about it and just started reading it, but I like the way u just described it better.   That's a lot of AC.

JocMeister -> RE: Attention to orders (9/27/2014 4:57:41 AM)

Be very wary when dropping large formations. I had like 1500 planes dropping a full Airborne ID. But they didnīt move any supplies so the attack failed miserably. Not sure if will work but try to set some transports on moving supply only.

BBfanboy -> RE: Attention to orders (9/27/2014 5:01:15 AM)

To be sure - I have not tested my idea in game - I barely know how to get the troops on the plane let alone send them on an assault!
It just seemed the only way to work it out arithmetically. I know the C-47/Dakota that I flew in a couple of times could carry 20 passengers, without paratroop gear, so I would estimate 16 per plane with gear.
I have no idea if the game uses the same data so using what the game provides I could only find airlift capacity in pounds and unit load cost in tons.

4th July 44

Burma
Moulmein is guarded by the Yamato, Mutsu, Nagoto, Fuso and 5 DDs or so.  Koniu has the river crossings guarded between Pegu and Moulmein.  I went up river and crossed over.  I'm working my way down.   I bombed Medans oil for nothing, but I did hit Saigon.  I sank 2 PBs, MTB,ACM and left 3 PBs, and AD with H Damage and H Fires. AF and port differed mod damage, repair yard took 5 hits man power took 10.

Ambon AO
Getting troops ready.

Solomons
I lost a Sea Bee unit to some DDs.  Moving troops around.

CVs are in for upgrades

6 July 44

For the 2 people who read I will try and keep posting.[:D]

Miri
Hiyo takes to TTs to the gut and sinks.  Confirmed by the Jap Emperor.

Tarawa
All the Jap troops have been bombed to death.  Troops landed and took the island without a shot being fired.

I think there are more than two of us reading. You don't often seem to need suggestions so the peanut gallery is silent.

Two torps took out Hiyo? That is good luck! I know Junyo and Hiyo are somewhat fragile but two torps seems survivable for a ship of their size. Did you get secondary explosions?

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (10/11/2014 3:05:58 AM)

14th July 44

Burma
Jap BBs have left Moulmein.  I have sent DDs and BBs to bombard the base.  CAs will go in tonite. I am also sending in sweeps and bombers for the AF tomorrow.  I am hoping to close it out tomorrow.  I sent a CL TF to bombard the hex north of Moulmen.  CLs are still sitting in that hex.  They might not be able to bombard a non base hex.  LCUs are heading for this same hex.  Japs have 120k of men and 1550 AFVs in this hex.  They prob have good forts too.  Naval bombardment would help.  Maybe I can eat all the supply up by bombarding Moulmein and bombing this hex.  2 More BBs will be in the area tomorrow and probably be operational within a week.

Ambon AO
I have sighted no warships in this hex for several days.  I am sending in some Fletchers to test the waters.

Solomons
Moving stuff around.

Kusaie
I have and will bomb this island.  Eniwetok will be hit tomorrow.  Makin is a practice range.

CVs are still undergoing upgrades.

BBfanboy -> RE: Attention to orders (10/11/2014 6:56:47 AM)

You can bombard troops in a non-base hex, normally. Canoerebel reported some issues with coastal bombardment in that lower Burma area - some pieces of shoreline do not allow for landings nor bombardments.
I don't know how to check that other than taking a FT TF with a small unit aboard and trying to land it, or trying to bombard over at least two turns.
Does the F6 key show a red line on the coast side vs the usual blue?

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (10/15/2014 4:56:03 AM)

BB: Hex side was blue and I cannot bombard the hex.  I have tried with 2 different TFs for 4 days.  Oh well.

17th July 44

Burma
I have chased all the fighters from Moulmein. My 4Es are still repairing so the navy will have to keep the AF closed.  I bombed the hex to the north of Moulmein. Couple hundred killed not to bad. Recon shows 23 units, I know that 6 are IDs and 2 are tank divisions.  I will try and bomb them some more.  I am hoping that naval bombardment of Moulmein will eat up a lot of supply meant for the forward defending troops.

Ambon AO
I went after the AF.  I lost 175 planes mostly older fighters. I shot down or destroyed 110.

Rest of the map is preparing and waiting for CVs to come out of repairs.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (1/6/2015 2:28:25 AM)

Sept 14, 44

Burma

Troops are moving from Pegu towards Chiang Mai. Several Jap IDs and tank units in the vicinity. I am going to start pushing from the Chinese side of Chiang Mai also.

I have take Port Blair, Rangoon, and Pegu. Moulmein has 5 or so IDs plus tank units and a bunch of AA. Map below.

DOCUP -> RE: Attention to orders (1/6/2015 2:34:18 AM)

Bismark Sea

I have made some advances in this area. I have taken Namatami. I took this base first. I wanted to shut down Rabaul. I did this with some luck. I now have LRCAP over Rabaul from Namatami. Rabaul has over 70k worth of troops, with a bunch of AA and Engs. I have also taken Kavieng. No response from Koniu really. No KB, I did get lucky with a CAP trap that my BBs plastered the AF. I am moving the most in this area at the moment. Map below
