where can I get info on how to get the PO to do air transport/assault and amphibious ops?

Kamerad,

To see how it works, check one of the Normandy or Arnhem scenarios. If there's air transport available, the units are on an airfield and the units get the formation order/objective set to the DZ, it should be a piece of cake. Are you in the process of creating a scenario?

yes working on a scenario - i already read the file.

i try to have an air-mobile unit to reinforce a force under attack using transport helos. when i play the side all is find. the reserve unit gets released as soon as the enemy takes a location and i have enough helo capacity to airlift the reserve unit. but Elmer makes the unit walk across land to get to the location under siege.

Try putting the untsi in question in an off-map area so that they cannot reach their location by foot.
Also, make sure their first objective is on the main map where you want them to go.

This works for amphibious. Seems to be a question of distance. When the units need more than one turn to move by ship PO will not move them. If it's less than one turn PO will move.

Air-mobile does not work. The unit stays at the location despite available helo transport capacity.

Let the airmobile troops board the 'choppas' at the beginning of the scenario, that should do the trick. Is it a small or medium scenario? Would like to have a look. Too lazy to create a Tutorial at the moment; but it's a good idea for one. Not really into post-Korean war stuff though ;)

this wouldn't work since i need the helos up to the moment where the reinforcements have to load.

i would say a rather small scenario approx 150-200 units per side.

Try setting the Airmob's to Ignore Losses.

Fudge it by having the Airmob's arrive at the target hex as reinforcements once the enemy occupies or attacks the trigger hex.

Let me beta test! Is it post Korean war?

it's still deep alpha (just land forces and choppers at 90% - need to work on air and naval now) - now Elemer uses airdrops - sometimes with very (positively) surprising results. Elmer bahviour is not very deterministic (depends on the seed). I use batallion task forces including one artillery btty. best results with a HQ unit including the mortars and the MANPADs. Infantry units pure infantry, bazookas and ATGM. Elmer keeps artillery perfectly back. sometimes the HQ leads the attack which is a bit intriguing.
yes post 1950. i'll be probably in beta early october. will come back to you.

Erik2 -> RE: Elmer and Air Transport / Amphibious Ops (9/19/2011 9:05:02 AM)

Re para drops.
I have noticed that Elmer may drop one unit on the first objective, the next unit on the second objective etc.
You can (probably) get around this by setting up the first objective track with only one objective.
Create an event that on the next turn shifts to the second objective track with the rest of the objectives.

i can confirm your observation. same is true for amphibious landings. you need to create a different track for the landings and the exploitation.
what i found out too - i don't know if this is new - is that naval units don't follow objectives.
