narly bird -> Tips on 1944/45 tactics (9/13/2011 8:02:52 AM)

I played through Panzer Corps for the first time on Colonel and did ok, but not great. I beat off the allied invasion at Normandy, but then really struggled with the war in the East against Russia. They have a massive number of tanks and anti-tank guns that i just can't seem to do much against.

In the end i was forced to defend Berlin and only managed a minor victory.

I was hoping for some tips on what you should use to take out the uber Russian tanks and anti-tank pieces that they have? In early/mid scenarios i would hit them with artillery and perhaps strategic bombers before directly attacking with my units. But the Russian pieces seem almost invulnerable to artillery and air attacks alike and so i am forced into attacking them directly with my tank/anti-tank pieces with odds of something like -2/-3 or perhaps -1/-3 if they are on a river. That is still in my favor, but considering they vastly outnumber me, its hardly sustainable.

So what do you use to take out the uber tanks/anti-tanks in the latter end of the war?

Note that i have now restarted the game on Field Marshall and have just finished the Norway scenario, so i really need some tips for when i proceed to later game.

Strategic bombers and arty to get the number of "combat ready" enemies in the unit down, then JagdTiger/JagdPanther/Tiger/KT/Panthers :)
Also try to force them to attack from rivers so they do less damage and you do more.

But yes, the late war against the USSR is a pain to say the least. The main problems are;
-you usually do not have enough prestige to upgrade all your units
-the deployment areas does not allow you to deploy in a sound tactical position.

8-9 Tiger II's will usually do the trick! [:)]
