Isolated units are not allowed to rout. They will usually surrender if they are in a situation where they otherwise would have routed.

If a unit that is already isolated is routed, I think it still remains on the map as routed until it is rallied. I am not positive about this though.

If a unit is isolated and far behind eneamy lines will it eventually surrender or does it have to be attacked?

Routed units that become isolated do not disband automatically; some seem to spontaeously though. It's hard to tell, there used to be a combat report symbol on the map that showed the surrender, but I didn't see that the last game I am playing.

If you "bump" an isolated an routed unit, it will disappear. It surrendered; you will notice the captured pool went up when you did that.

You cannot attack isolated unit if you move unit next to it it surrender. I think that Isolated units will surrender in time but in current patch that time of surrender is very long.

I use sec divisions to handle small pockets and units that are left deep behind the lines.
