gunny -> Somebody here plays Civ 5? (9/16/2011 5:27:37 PM)

Simple question about Civ 5, and I know someone here has it [;)] First off I don't feel like registering on a fan-board for a game I may never get to ask 1 question so I thought there'd be no harm in asking here.

Time it takes between turns. I have a first generation pentium i7 (2 year old computer). I found Civ 4 took a long time to process between turns when playing on huge maps. Even with show unit movements set to off. The pause was unbearable as all 8 civs are doing their thinking and maneuvers. So I'm wondering if Civ 5 is no different or this is not even relevant anymore.

I play Civ5 and it can take a while to process turns.

Takes a while between turns for me also. To be fair though, so does Civ IV for me.

Standard sized maps (default) in civ 4 are six civs, + yourself making 7 players on the map total. If you go a step up things can lag much more, so I'm not surprised.

As for civ5, I found the demo HORRIBLE. Too frieken slow, even an RTS had a much higher frame-rate, and this is supposed to be TURN BASED!? I found myself stuck using the 2D mode because the 3D gimmicks were just killing my frme-rate. Unfortunately, the 2D schematic view was buggier than a piece of Paradox, so it game me constant crashes to the desktop.

Hopefully my input can save someone else from wasting their $ on that kind of a PoS. If you really want to get a PoS, then get Habro's Squad Leader release (Ahahaha!) at least it won't be as much a head-ache, though still a frustration.

Yup, me. Thx. I loved Civ I to III, bought Civ IV as well but somehow got disappointed with the game. Maybe it haf gotten too cartoony? Too many flashy graphics? Too 3D? Don't know but I quickly stopped playing it. Bought the expansion in the hope of rekindling my old love for the Civ series but no luck. So I was very hesitant of buying Civ V... maybe for a few bucks in a steam sale... one day.

Josh, that's how I got Civ V. I forget how much Steam had it going for but it was really cheap. Hell, I got Europa Universalis III with all the expansions for $14.99. Good deals if you just keep watch.

Real cheap eh? Hmm, no can't do, can't change my mind within two posts now can I ? [;)]
On the other hand, man I used to be so addicted to Civ that I even now can remember the "hatred" I felt against the evil Mongols who dared to invade my peaceful empire. Must-crush-the-evil-Mongols. [:D] Man those were good times, what a fun.
