Firebomber47 -> Teleporting Jap CVs (9/22/2011 1:20:27 AM)

Has anyone had problems with Jap (or Allied) convoys suddenly appearing where there wasn't one before? I was playing WITP:AE on an XP computer as the Allied side in a campaign scenario. While defending the southern Philipines from Jap invasion forces, my Allied DDs suddenly started getting hammered by Jap CV airstrikes. When I switched to Head-to-Head mode, three of the Jap fleet CVs were being escorted through the area by some DDs. When I backed up one day and tried to find out where they came from, they were in port at Osaka/Kyoto, hundreds of miles to the north! So, did the IJN borrow teleporters from Star Trek!?! [X(] Beam me up Scotty!!

Firebomber47,
I feel your pain. I am convinced the same thing is happening to Jap SSs. Nothing around a convoy for 15-20 hexes (in an area with heavy air naval search). Then on the next 12 hr. impulse I'm losing TKs/AKs to Jap SSs.

I understand an SS could be missed easily by air, but it happens too often to be a coincidence.

SSs are WAY too powerful in this game.

Good hunting.
Nate

Japanese subs in game are historically accurate, your aircrew's problem is if the crew's skill level are low then they are worthless, same for escorts - however escorts do have a higher chance to defend a convoy then an aircraft will.

You forgot the Japanese were extremely experienced and skilled, however the Submarine Doctrine was extremely weak (Single Torpedo for transports/destroyers, 2 for cruisers, 4 for battleships/carriers etc)

They elected most of the time not to "waste" torpedoes on garbage targets like "AK's" which they felt were not worthy targets. In AE however this is not implimented - the higher the Aggression the more likely a skipper will go nuts in trying to sink a target.
Japanese Submarines were highly experienced and if it has a decent skipper, it can wreck havoc.

AI cheats. Live with it. [:)]

JeffroK -> RE: Teleporting Jap CVs (9/22/2011 10:26:16 AM)

My AI opponent has a Stargate 8 hexes north of Saipan, I have tried 5-6 times to trap them and failed and my LBA (about 200+ 2E in the Mariana with plenty of P47/51 escorts) dont even sortie.

Pascal_slith -> RE: Teleporting Jap CVs (9/22/2011 9:21:52 PM)

Welcome to the world of 'AI' in games. True AI does not exist in any game. There only exist programming runarounds so it 'feels' like there is an AI.

If you want to get a headache about this, read the threads/discussions between herwin, fcharton and JWE (most recent is titled 'Vapnik' in the main forum).

inqistor -> RE: Teleporting Jap CVs (9/24/2011 7:09:34 AM)

As far as I know, AI when creating TF, can take ships from other bases far-away. I am not sure, where such TF can be created (could it be mid-ocean?)

In WITP I had real problem with constant stream of different TFs (first Carriers, then some tankers), which were travelling PH-NZ route, and I have detected them always somewhere east of New Caledonia. I have put searching units on all nearby islands, and every time, those TFs slipped and were detected only east of New Caledonia, or further south. It is possible they just appeared there.

Andy Mac -> RE: Teleporting Jap CVs (9/26/2011 12:26:53 PM)

AI does not teleport TF's it occasionally teleports ships from one prot to another if required to form convoys

JeffroK -> RE: Teleporting Jap CVs (9/27/2011 6:52:43 AM)

Sometimes it seems like it Andy.
In my case it probably bases out of the Bonin Is, I'm afraid to venture there as AI seems to have 12000 kamis with 80exp pilots!
