Feinder -> How the GRRRRR do I land guys on a dot hex? (9/24/2011 2:48:48 PM)

I'm just trying to land friendly guys on a friendly dot hex.
I've tried using civilian transports (xAK).
I've tried using small civilain transports (xAKL), figuring with port(0), need small displacement due to lack of port size.
I've tried using AKAs.
I can't even get light transports to dump supplies there (maybe they wouldn't land guys without supplies).

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over-and-over again, and expecting a different result.

At this point, I've pushed convoys up to ye insignificant island 5 times, and my guys still won't throw so much as a can of SPAM over the side to occupy the island. While I commend their green-ness to stave off the upcoming "Garbage Patch", it's really getting annoying that I can't build an AirField on my own freaking colony.

Somebody please share with the slow learner, how the heck am I supposed to get troops onto a (friendly) dot hex?

Guad Scenario.

Have you tried using an amphibious TF yet? Port 0 means transport and cargo TF will unload supplies very slow and many unit devices not at all...

Yes, it has to be an amphib TF. The unloading will be very slow. Extremely slow for heavy equipment like dozers and big guns--I believe nav support will speed this up somewhat.

I was only using transport tf. I'll try amphib next time. Thx all!

Amph will work for sure [:)]

And APA, AKA, LST, LCT, and LCI will unload very fast. In one or two days depending on the amount of troops you are unloading. But as said it must be an amphibious TF. I do not do it but it is my understanding that you can mix xAP and xAK with APA and AKA type ships and they (landing craft equipped ships) will help unload heavy weapons from the x ships but at a slower speed.

Hey Feinder. Nice to see an old timer back! Amphib is the way to go. If you find engineer vehicles or support troops cannot land, drop them somewhere near and bring them back on AKLs once the first guys have built a size 1 port. If they are too slow building, throw in another engineer unit if you can spare one.

And even though tons of stuff has been fixed/improved in various patches and the current Betas, you will find the manual good "bathroom reading" to help you bridge the gap between WITP and AE. [;)]

And for you Jap fan-boys, LSDs are wonderful for this (in amphib TF of course).

some 'devices', such as BaseForce radars, just won't unload from an AmphTF, even at a size-2 port, unless you've got Naval Support already unloaded at the hex.

if NavSup is scarce, try loading a NavBF into a separate AmphTF of 1 ship, set this TF to merge w/ your main AmphTF. that way, you'll get a fragment of NavSup to sail in company, hopefully perhaps it'll have enough oomph to help your unloading.
