Remenents -> Tutorial or the like? (9/26/2011 4:19:14 PM)

So, I havent played since the game was released basically and I tried to play today only to get a major "overwhelming" feeling. So I was wondering if there was a tutorial that will explain the major basics of the game again? I used to have the printed out manual to War in the Pacific original, but I cant find it, and it wouldnt be that helpful anyway because AE has so many changes. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction on finding a downloadedable tutorial or downloadable MOD Tutorial, I would greatly appreciate it. I want to get back into the game, I just cant remember so much about the game... thanks in advance.

How can you own the game and not have the pdf manual? It's in your Documentation folder...

No official Tutorials

Some out of date basic video tutes I made a while ago ...

No worries - From the start - programs menu - War In the Pacific; it is in Documentation
But if you go to the path it's c:\matrix games\War in the Pacific Admirals Edition\Manuals

Good luck and ask some Q's, there are a lot of well informed people around this place...[8D]

Oh I know there are :) I have been reading up on the forums for about 3 days now, everytime I feel confident I can remember how to play and I try, I start a campaign (with quiet China, hate playing China) and start to get going, I always get overwhelmed with "how the heck do I do this" or "facroties?? What the...?" So ya, I just cant remember anything lol. I dont understand the factories, refineries, ect ect. Thats why I was looking for a tutorial or a manual or something to read up on some of this stuff. The game just has SO much attention to detail that it is reall confusing at times.

Don't be deterred Remenents,  instead of trying to play the grand campaign you may want to load up one of the smaller scenarios, once you feel comfortable with the game mechanics then move on to the grand campaign.

As the allies you really don't have to worry or run industry as you'll have lots of all you need, the only thing you need to know is turn off repairs of all industry in any area expected to be in the Japanese path and all of China. It takes 1,000 supply to repair one damaged industry point and you can't afford to do that early until the Burma Road is reopened. China is the one area were you need to hoard supply.

Once you start playing the grand campaign - Make sure you save you day 1 turn in a secure spot , play for 30 days make notes of the changes you'd like to make because of errors go back to your day 1 save , make changes and before you know it you'll be on your way. The learning curve is long but  it is fun as well if you enjoy learning you'll learn new stuff daily...

Best of luck!! [:)]

might help you a bit when planning Grand Campaign, tho it is for more (lot more) detailed DaBabes scenario.

Among the most important advice/insight I follow:

Use Google to search the forums - Matrix's forum search engine has a limited max time frame and is not very good.

-->Example (put the following into the search box at google.com):
site:matrixgames.com +"War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition" + tenders + "how to use"

Replace the phrases "tenders" and "how to use" with whatever you are searching for.

Your going to get a bunch of trash with your searches (it is Google, so that is a given), including a boatload of AARs sometimes, but you will discover a lot of nuggets that you will not find using Matrix's forum search function. Be careful to note that your results will include discussions of things that have changed since the last official patch (especially posts that were made before any patches came out).

My dream: full/expanded boolean search operators on Google (e.g., a search for the term "ASW" within 3 words of ("allied" or "US") within the same paragraph as the word "strategy" but not in Web pages that have the word "DaBabes"- those familiar with Lexis/Nexis or Westlaw know what I am talking about - it's amazing).

+1 to what SuluSea said. Try the smaller scenarios first. If you feel you really must play the GC to start. Don't worry so much about what you have to do each turn. The best way to approach it is to just pick only a couple of things to do the first day and do them, then hit end turn. Next day, pick a few more. You don't have to get everything done on turn 1.

After a while, you might want to create some kind of checklist to help you remember what to do each turn, or each week, or each month.

Remenents -> RE: Tutorial or the like? (9/27/2011 3:09:27 PM)

Thanks all. I appreciate all the awesome tips! I managed to play about 15 days yesterday and saved my game and then closed it. When I reopened this morning to continue, I noticed that the auto save didnt work and neither did my manual save. Ugh!! I experimented a bit this morning and non of my auto saves are holding and my manual saves dont either still. Not sure what to do now... I started a new thread about this issue hoping someone can help me!
