Califvol -> Long Range Dutch Torpedoes (9/30/2011 9:51:55 PM)

I am playing the scenaior against the AI where the Japanese get everything but the kitchen sink to attack the Allied player with, but have forgot the name.

Anyhow, I think it's funny that it's March 1942 and my Dutch Submarines have sunk a GERMAN pocket battleship and a U boat. Those are some pretty long range torpedoes for the Dutch East Indies boat to sink a German pocket battleship. LOL

Since I didn't go to the editor to check the forces the Japanese got in this scenario to find a German SAG attacking Java was truly a bit of surprise! Well done to whoever wrote this scenario!

Yikes!  Just started this scenario PBEM and had not played before (I'm allies)...I'll consider this an Ultra decode and be on the watch...

Scen 2:

The extras:
*Japanese pilots start more experienced, and replacements are more experienced
*IJNAF and IJAAF both start with some extra units, and more planes in the replacement pool
*IJA gets some extra Brigades in 1942
*A few planes have faster R&D dates, most notably the TOJO, (6-42)
*IJN gets a few more escort craft, mostly DMS and Es
*IJN CVEs now have organic airgroups

There are no extra CVs or anything beyond that; the core Navy is about the same.

Is the scenarion Iron Man ?

As Andy added a lot of additional ships for the Japanese Navy to create more challenge, he added some german ships and german subs. The AI got quite a ship boost, and there wheren´t that many axis ships at all :)

Andy Mac -> RE: Long Range Dutch Torpedoes (10/2/2011 12:58:34 AM)

Ironman is the only mod I know of with some of those little surprises....

That's a ridiculous scenario to be playing in PBEM, especially as a new player. Who are you playing against ? If it's someone with even the slightest bit of experience in this game he's just looking to beat up a newbie and I wouldn't consider him an honourable opponent just for proposing the scenario. If it's a newbie as well you're just going to find out why the scenario is meant to be played against that AI and you should start planning the rematch with a sensible scenario.

While there are no extra CVs there are a slew of extra CVLs and CVEs, not to mention super BBs, BBs, CAs, CLs and DDs.

I have never loaded it as the Jaspanese to get an actual count but I have played it through the first 12 months as the Allies at least 6 times now (current game is in Feb '43) and can attest to the fact that the IJN is significantly stronger.

dr.hal -> RE: Long Range Dutch Torpedoes (10/3/2011 7:59:21 PM)

Extra BBs??? When did Japan get the time, money and resources to do that? Do they complete the whole run of Yamato class BBs?

Califvol -> RE: Long Range Dutch Torpedoes (10/3/2011 8:13:21 PM)

Ok, I went back and looked up the scenario name and it is Ironman. Since this is a hypothectical history scenario (Extreme Axis Prep) one should not get too far down the road on actual historical points as issues

As an Allied retort mayhaps there could be a "Final Count Down" scenario where the Allies get a fully outiftted Nimitz Class carrier to be employed as first turn surprise?! LMAO

Regardless, I fully enjoy the AI game being punched up in the fashion Ironman has done, especially as I only play against the AI.

They get the Kii which I believe is what the Shinano would have been if it had been built out as a BB. I haven't yet played to the point where they would have gotten the Shinano to see if they still get it. They also get many more BBs of other classes. The scenario is a supposition (and probably very loosely based in plausibility) that the Japanese were better prepared before starting the war. They aslo get more help from he Germans in the form of a SAG, AMCs and additional uboats.

Since it's pretty easy for a thinking human being to defeat an AI playing from scripts, Ironman makes for a better game and a significantly beefed up AI may well survive longer against a human opponent. I still have to temper myself early on and play with one hand tied behind my back or even the Ironman AI gets trashed too quickly. It is still just an AI.

I believe Andy Mac is working on an Allied AI Iroman scenario.

dr.hal -> RE: Long Range Dutch Torpedoes (10/4/2011 9:34:38 PM)

Thanks Hans... I'm not fond of playing against the AI, as I don't see it as a challenge, except when you want to "learn the ropes".....Thanks again.

packerpete -> RE: Long Range Dutch Torpedoes (10/8/2011 8:41:10 PM)

Andy Mac just put out a draft of Iron Man V. He thinks it might be too tough though[;)] edited to say version 4.
