SPRUANCE74 -> Discrepancy in points for Jap ships sunk (10/8/2011 5:06:45 AM)

I previously noted that the actual tally of Jap ships sunk was higher than the computer points when "The Fog of War" option was turned on. I turned it off & the points matched. Recently I noted that the increase I observed didn't match the computer tally so I added them up again. Sure enough, my manual count done twice with a calculator was 858 for 30 ships sunk whereas the computer only showed 838 for 30. The # for Jap ships agreed as did the Allies counts [172,12] for both # of ships & points. The difference is not great, 20/858 =2.3% but there is a difference which could be greater at other times. The discrepancy is greater when "The Fog of War" is turned on which obvioulsy could negatively impact the Allies overall Victory Score. Matrix should fix this since it is simple arithmetic.

Fix what. There is nothing broken. Read s.18.1.1 of the manual.

I disagree. [:-] I did read it. It refers to the Fog of War option being turned on. It doesn't discuss what the count should be when the option is turned off. As I posted, I turned off the Fog of War, so I assume the ship counts should be accurate. I did this to monitor my results while I am still learning the game. The counts were accurate were for the first turns, but were off by 2.3% on the last turn, not a a major problem. I plan to keep monitoring this until the end of this scenario to see what happens and if there is a significant impact on the final scores.

Could the point difference be attributed to your opponent (the AI) scuttling some badly damaged ships, thus lowering the points lost by 10% for each ship scuttled? (I don't play the AI, and I have no idea if the AI will scuttle; but when ships are scuttled, the victory points received by the other side is 10% less).

Good point. Maybe I'll find out when I finish this Guadalacanal Scenario and get the final totals. I don't know how I could find this out before then. Maybe someone else knows. Anyway, I'm hoping it won't be much of a problem.
