being new to panzer corps in general, and especially panzer corps, it took me quite some time to chew through the first few campaign maps, especially the low countries. the difficulties i have are that i often fail to anticipate the outcome of a battle. i dont mean bad luck with dice rolls. i mean the combat modifiers different unit types have that make them especially good / bad in certain combats. for example, until recently i didnt know that paratroops have a huge combat bonus against forts, which makes me think "d'oh, why didnt i just drop the aux paras in the low countries right at their starting position, where the forts are?" or for a more recent example in france*: i was exited to bring the aux tankdestroyer unit to use and engaged a french tank in open terrain. the combat simulator states "-3 initiative for AT against Armor" say whaaat? isnt AT supposed to be the counter to armor? i guess it makes sense to argue that AT relies on stealth and surprise to be effective against tanks, therefore open plains are not a desirable battlefield for this engagement. but then again, how am i supposed to engage enemy tanks in woods, cities? the AI is not sso stupid as to put them there and wont engage my AT in a city with tankss either. and until now, it is only my believe that the -3 initiative penalty only applies in open terrain. might as well be different. but id really like to know. is there a list somewhere that states all the unit specific special modifiers? and on a sidenote: how do you put tank destroyers to use effectively? thanks for replies!
