MasterChief -> Confession (10/29/2011 4:35:53 PM)

Confession… I was tempted.

I decided to try the other 4x space opera that just came out while waiting for DW’s new expansion… Not my smartest move! Ended up paying for a beta version they sent out by mistake and their patch to fix it was just a another version of the beta.

Erik, you and the team take as long as you want to get the expansion out! [;)]

Bleek -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 4:38:53 PM)

So how is Swords of Stars II?

Data -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 4:41:27 PM)

HectorOfTroy -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 4:53:50 PM)

I've been following that debacle, very silly. Esp after reading all the posts by the main CEO Mecron in which he sounds a bit arrogant and then this huge mess happening. Thank God for Codeforce and Matrix :).

Nedrear -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 4:56:54 PM)

So you say the best 4x game out there is DW? Well I only played games like the X series before where you are only one person not an empire though.

Gelatinous Cube -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 5:44:06 PM)

Right there with you MasterChief. We're 2 patches in to SotS2 now, and I've yet to actually get it to start a game. I was really looking forward to this one, too. [:@]

For now, then, looks like DW holds the title! Due in no small part to the unique and dilligent way the dev(s?) have gone about creating this gem.[&o]

HectorOfTroy -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 5:51:36 PM)

I find it funny how kerebros forums went down exactly when this whole debacle happened.

WiZz -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 6:01:32 PM)

All of you forgot original DW before patches...

One man in a garage can release whatever he wants, and if it's even close to DW its a pretty good effort. A veteran team (still small, but definately long-time developers; Mecron was part of the Homeworld II team I believe)of developers I expect much more out of.

J HG T -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 6:34:31 PM)

Everything is relative.

ASHBERY76 -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 6:44:08 PM)

SOTS2 will come good in a month or so.Looks like I will be playing Legends first after all.

Yes, one man can release whatever he wants. But, it is not fair when he set a price for his project like AAA-project.

Nope. I still remeber how much I was disapionted with first realese.
But the game was in playable stage at last.
SOTS II is in alpha notplayable stage - tech demo sold as full version.

And Mecron is a arogant jerk full of ****. BTW Kerberos forum is down.

DW is much much better.

I agree with you about Mecron. I was a member of those forums at the time when they just announced SOTS 1 and his arrogance and the way he was treating forum members amazed me, so I just stopped posting. esp since those fourm members are actually paying customers.

I still can't believe how many people on Kerberos forums kiss his behind, even after he goes all berserk on them for no reason. There are some posters that call him a God and have his qoutes in their signatures. It just amazes me.

WiZz -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 9:31:01 PM)

Waiting for addons [:D]

J HG T -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 9:39:57 PM)

I don't usually get into these kind of discussion. But, for some time, for some reason, I had this odd feeling that SotS2 might get into some serious problems upon its release. SotS is a good game, but not that good game that SotS2 can pull stunts like this without serious consequences.
Guess my guts were right once again.

Bleek -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 9:42:13 PM)

No reviews anywhere before release? Fowl play was afoot!

There's also a gross lack of information, videos and images, before the release and after too.

Texashawk -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 10:53:48 PM)

I don't know how long it will take - I sure hope it doesn't go the way of Lost Empires and become basically abandoned by the developers, (some fans eventually patched that thing) With the amount of vitrol on the boards, and the chasm of things that need to be fixed, it's at least a small possibility.

Personally, I blame Paradox, and told them so pointedly on their forums.

'twas the PIGEONS!

Sarissofoi -> RE: Confession (10/29/2011 11:51:58 PM)

On Paradox Sots forum I find link to some info:
http://arinndembo.com/?p=743
Dont look good. Personally I blame Mecron and his "great" character and way he handling people.
At last for the current game state.
Paradox is to blame for realese because this alpha shouldnt pass any reasonable tests. Texashawk I see your post on Paradox forum. Well said.
I wish that game get patched but I dont have my hopes highs.
Especially if you look how they handle Fort Zombie.

Not unexpected; the whole team had been pushing endless hours for the last two weeks, knowing they couldn't delay any longer, and then they collapsed as one. Nobody was around to keep things going. Very small outfit, just over a dozen people when fully staffed.

They've certainly got their work cut out for them, but they do have a solid reputation, and aren't release-and-run types like some I could name.

Hanekem -> RE: Confession (10/30/2011 3:07:08 AM)

Seems like a good how not to guide. While I believe Paradox and Kerberos will patch this thing to usefullness... well, it is a let down and will probably hurt both the companies involved and, more importantly, the genre.

I believe this might be good for Codeforce, but on the other hand you guys will have more higher standards to live to.

Good luck!

Texashawk -> RE: Confession (10/30/2011 4:07:42 AM)

Sure hope Matrix wouldn't pull something like this... they're one of the (very few) companies that I still have faith in. I don't mean 'release a game with bugs' - I mean flat out 'release a pile of beta that is literally missing entire features, buttons, and has massive stability and documentation issues...'

Abraxis -> RE: Confession (10/30/2011 4:14:50 AM)

Keep in mind, Elemental: War of Magic was in a similar state on release and took a year for a much more stable developer (Stardock) to bring up to standard.

And if you're wondering "Could SOtS2 really be THAT bad?". One of the developers likens it to an emergency C-Section in order to save child and mother.

http://arinndembo.com/?p=743

That being said I decided to come back here and see how things were going after my temporary payed beta experience only to see all this Legends stuff.  So things aren't all bad in the 4X world :)

WiZz -> RE: Confession (10/30/2011 9:14:31 AM)

Kerberos forums are working for now.

Actually Elemental was quite playable on release, it was lacking and suffering from a lot of stuff, but playable in the sense I don't get a BSOD by turn three, but you had to be patient.

On my side of things I knew of legends beforehand and was wondering what I was going to play, or keep playing. now, well, the doubt seems to be gone

MasterChief -> Impressions after playing (10/30/2011 3:00:24 PM)

Played the game for a while last night. Never came to blows with the alien infestations of the galaxy but did get a feel for the strategic game as a whole. It has incredible potential and the unique interface graphics and voice/sound for each race really does provide a completely new level of immersion.

Still, the overall atmosphere (color schemes, graphics, etc.) is a bit to “cartoon like” for my taste. There are some great features that would augment the DW gaming experience but I think that would start getting into copyright infringement. [;)]

Still very disappointed with the release version but I’m keeping the game because I expect it to get much better with several patches… and I love this genre so will support anyone attempting to keep it alive. Over all, DW is still the winner as far as I am concerned and I am really looking forward to the next DW expansion…. Again, seriously Erik… take all the time you need! [:)]
