Guru -> German 22nd Airlanding Div (10/31/2011 2:56:39 PM)

Hi there
does anyone know how to airdrop these guys
I've stacked tham withan airbase full of JU-52's but the only thing I managed to do is have them drop supplies on top of themselves. The manual is not a great help... thanks...

BTW, the manual says there are no limitations ar restrictions to the number of airbases you can attach to an Air HQ... Does that mean that you can attach all your air to, say, Richtoffen to benefit from his superior rating ?

For parachute drops see the wite wiki at
http://www.witewiki.com/index.php?title=Air_Dropping_Parachute_Units

But I doubt that you can use the the 22 airlanding to make an airdrop, never tried but it is not an airborne unit (in real life they should use gliders and there are not gliders in game as far as I know).

22nd Air Landing is not a Para Unit. Not in game, not IRL. It's air transportable, but rarely would you want to use that.

It's basically a very good infantry division; nothing more

Oh well

that's why

thanks

(the Germans did plan to use the div to seize Russian ports on the Black Sea during their drive towards Baku though... but I guess allowing it to be airdropped would lead to abusive use. Maybe it's better this way)

The air landing divisions were trained to be dropped behind enemy lines, but after being moved to (previously enemy) airfields by glider or transport instead of being dropped anywhere by parachute. Like paratroopers, their actual combat value in that role was often not too high, depending on enemy resistance. The only air landing operation the 22nd was engaged in, the invasion of the Netherlands, very nearly ended in disaster/destruction for them and for most of the participating Fallschirmjaeger units.

And here you see the real reason that Germany lost the war:
The officer corps spent far too much time learning penmanship and drawing
