just finished Neptunes Inferno truly great book read about the naval battles around Guadalcanal many times but never anything with this detail! like the Battle of Lunga Point have read about it numerous times but never grasped what a point blank slugfest it was must have been truly hell on earth for these men!!

Does provide an interesting view going through the details of those early surface fights.

I was amazed at how much damage a CL could inflict on a BB and that the Japanese thought that 16" hits below the waterline were torpedo hits.

The thing that really stuck in my mind was that the poor souls on these ships had nowhere that was safe as even the waters were teeming with sharks waiting to be fed.
