MasterChief -> How to modify music (11/6/2011 8:22:41 PM)

Hello to all,

Love the game but the background music is not my cup of tea. I tried deleting all the files in music folder and copying several of my favorite background ambient music files into it. That gave me error on start up. (Glad I backed up the music folder first). So obviously some music is tied to specific events. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. [:)]

Homeworld music?

Other than that just get some music from your favourite show. It's easy to do, just create a folder in Customization folder called whatever you like and inside that folder create a music folder and chuck your stuff in there.

Matrix Games-> Distant Worlds->Customization->My Theme->music

Then in the games main menu change the theme to your new theme.

Good day Masterchief!

The best and safest way to change the music is as a theme. In other words, create in the customization
directory the sub-directory of /Music, then place your wanted music files in there. Give your
theme a name (ie. My Music). Then when you start your new game, just change the theme from 'Default'
to 'your named theme'. Remember that the files must be in MP3 audio format compatible with Windows
Media Player 9 or better. Also, if you're playing a theme/mod already, just add a music subdirectory
in the directory of the theme you are playing, then add your music files to that. When you restart
your game, that music should be playing.

You can also just back up the original DW Sounds/Music directory as you've done and add your
music in there. I would suggest you leaving the file named "Distant Worlds Theme". That might be
afaik the only actual music file you need. Hope this helps! [:)]

Thanks for that, i was wondering the same thing actually.

One more question i would ask!

Is the number of music tracks the game will use limited or could i create a music folder with say 30+ tracks in it? Also, does it randomize the order they play or do you have to have them organized in the order you wish them played?

Thanks in advance [&o]

I do not know if there is a limit on it, I've had it working fine with a quite lot of tracks in the past.
Is it random? No idea, why don't you try it and find out :)

For extra info, if you name one of the tracks:
DistantWorldsTheme.mp3
Then that track will play in the main menu.

Gelatinous Cube -> RE: How to modify music (11/7/2011 8:33:31 AM)

I rather like the existing music. Very reminiscent of Star Wars, which is what I think the developer was going for.

DW is a jewel in itself but our modders are even better at this so it's great fun to have all this variety available....assimilate them all, Elliot, not just Woodman [:)]
just? as if all of Woodman's stuff would be easy to assimilate [:D]

tjhkkr -> RE: How to modify music (11/9/2011 4:35:43 AM)

Yes, I have used a mix of Dark Forces, The Force Unleashed, of course: Attack of the Clones, some Episode III stuff as well...
I think I even have one Star Trek .mp3 file in there, but I think that sneaky Romulan IGard snuck that in on me... or maybe Data, but my money is on that Romulan![:'(][:D]

Ooo man, Laura Barrat rules the galaxy...this galaxy [:)]
Very rarerly a new addition to an awesome game can improve it and satisfy everyone but Laura pulled it off exceptionally.

The music from MW2 Mercenaries would rock DW IMO. [sm=Cool-049.gif]
