Gremell -> v1.05.39 AI behaviour (11/8/2011 5:13:39 PM)

There seems to have been a radical change in the behaviour of the attack AI in v1.05.39.

I've reached February 1945 playing the Germans in the campaign game (I still hold Leningrad, Moscow and Rostov). I have a very strong defensive line with units occuping hexes with a fortification level of 4 or 5 every alternate hex.

Since the AI change in v1.05.39, the AI is inserting Russian units into the single-hex gap between unit stacks across my whole front line, even between stacks that have a 45-plus defence rating in hexes with a fortification level of five. I would suggest this is unrealistic.

Is this what was intended? I have attached a screen grab.

Isn't this the perfect way to force you to abandon that Maginot line?

Unrealistic? Pot, meet kettle![:D]

Seems to make sense actually.....

1 hex = 10 miles. If you leave 10 miles caps everywhere and expecting Soviets not to use
them... its more likely you are having unrealistic vision about "strong defense".

Soviets were famous about using every single weak spots in German lines. If they could,
they always hitted weak spot between 2 division. 10 miles cap, Zhukov would have been
VERY happy about those open doors.

Yes, this is a likely result of the AI changes as one of the things Gary was trying to do was to get the AI to do a better job to fill in unoccupied hexes. It was primarily because I wanted him to make sure the AI would be sure to put units in hexes that the AI had won in combat, but I can see how it might apply to hexes that are not enemy occupied. This is a good thing as the AI should try to infiltrate when possible. You can always counterattack.
