Mike13z50 -> Shock Armies & Guards Armies: How the morale bonus works (11/21/2011 8:42:43 PM)

I want to make sure I understand the morale rules with regards to Shock & Guards Armies.

Cavalry, Mountain, and Motorized (Tank/Mech) units recieve a "specialty" morale bonus, they do not benifit from being attached to Shock/Guards Armies. (patch 1.05.18 19.a & f)

So that means only Rifle & Artillery units benifit from attachment to Shock/Guards Armies.

Guards units do not benfit from being in a Shock Army. "Shock Armies provide their +5 bonus for non-guards units" (patch 1.05.18 19.f)

Guards Rifle/Artillery units do benefit from being in a Guards Army. "Guards Armies provide their +5 bonus for Guards units" (patch 1.05.18 19.f)

Which means to maximize morale benifits Shock Armies should have mainly Rifle & Artillery non-guards units, and Guards Armies should have Guards Rifle and Guards Artillery.

Does that sound right?

Pertinent patch notes below the cut.

--------------------------
9.2.4. Soviet Shock Army Attached Unit Morale Bonus
Soviet units that are directly attached to Shock Army headquarters units will receive a five point bonus to their national morale. This morale bonus exists only as long as the unit is directly attached to a Shock Army HQ unit.

New Rules – (Section 9.2.4) – Soviet non-guards units that are directly attached to a Guards Army HQ will receive a five point bonus to their national morale. Shock Army HQs do not provide a morale benefit to guards units. Guards Army and Shock Army HQs do not provide their +5 bonus to non-guards units if their command limit is exceeded (they must be within their command limit for any units under their command to receive a benefit).

V1.05.18 – September 6, 2011
19) Changes to Morale Rules

a. The following units receive bonuses to their National Morale: All Cavalry, Mountain Airborne and Air Landing units, and Axis Allied motorized units +5, German Motorized Units +10, Soviet Motorized Units (from Sept 1942-August 1943) +5, Soviet Motorized Units (Sept 1943-end of war) +10.

f. Shock Armies provide their +5 bonus for non-guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus. Guards Armies provide their +5 bonus for Guards units which don’t already have a specialty bonus.

When it says +5 morale, I think that means that the "natural" morale of the unit is increased by five, and it will tend towards that over time, rather than immediately gaining an exta five points just because it's been attached.

Somewhat like increasing the national morale for those units?
