I'm watching "The Frozen Dead" on Netflix. It is a French police procedural set on the seldom shown region Des Pyrénées Français. The plot is rather involving, but what I like more of these productions is how, even if the plot is front and center, they show you the daily life in little known corners of the Earth.

Finally getting round to watching The Pacific. Two episodes in and its okay... but it lacking something and not as good as Band of Brothers. Still, its early days....

Currently watching the NEW episodes of Beavis & Butthead and grand theft auto 5 Mobile. And laughing as much as I did 15 years ago.

Yeah, The Pacific was not up there with Band of Brothers for me either.

Currently watching the cartoon "Paradise P.D" on Netflix, gotta admit that is just my kind of humor, so I laugh alot.

Well the series came to an end on Sunday and I have to say that was gripping entertainment from start to finish. Yes there have been people only too happy to rubbish some aspects on the basis of a lack of plausibility but whatever - that was a real delight to watch. Great cast - Hawes, Madden, Rundle, McKee, Bowman et al - and a great script to go with it.

Series 2 please!

I agree with everything you say
In all honesty i thought that we would have seen the H/Sec
But who knows
S2?

I just binge-watched the first season of "Veep". I'm a fan of Armando Iannucci since "The Thick of It" and "In the Loop", and I was not disappointed. The gags and zingers are so packed that more than once I had to stop the video and rewatch a scene - or even a simple exchange - because I was still laughing from the previous one. I hope they will be able to sustain the same hilarious intensity in the following seasons too. [:D]

I felt the series picked up substantially around episode V: the 1st MarDiv invasion of Peleliu. Once it 'devolved' into the mud, grit, heat and grind of that battle it found more fertile ground and stayed rooted throughout the balance. Sledge's immersion into this Hell changed his character, and in the Okinawa episodes, brought his persona to the brink of the soulless abyss.

Stick with it. It's at least as good as BOB in my opinion. It's just different.

Yes I intend to stick with it. Maybe Stella will make a re-appearance?

The Flu That Killed 50 Million

An excellent documentary about the 'Spanish Flu' of 1918. Interesting how the name Spanish Flu came about. Apparently the war-faring countries kept a lid on the outbreak and so when it spread to Spain (where it claimed the life of the king Alfonso XIII), because Spain was not at war, the flu and its effect on the country, was widely reported and it appeared to outsiders as though Spain was most affected.

Despite the name of the documentary, it is thought that as many as 100 million died from the outbreak.

Very interesting stuff and, as narrated by Christopher Eccleston, it had the feel of a serious production.

I binge watched the first season of True Detective. And it had its moments. Momentarily it was brilliant. But I felt that the basic story was to weak for an entire season. Still a enjoyable show. [:)]

So I continued with binge watching season two. At least the first half. And there I came to a complete stop. Now I have to summon energy in order to continue watching it. [:(]

Thank-you.

I must say I enjoyed season 1 - I agree season 2 less so but was still okay.

Orm -> RE: What program/film/documentary are you watching now? (9/27/2018 7:47:26 PM)

The second season have been decent so far. Before I had a major objection to an event. If I hadn't been so tired at that point I suspect that I would have continued watching and got over it at once. But now, with a break, I pondered on it to much. Anyway, I will get back to this when I finished with the season.

I have been watching the highly addictive Critical Role... just finished watching episode 63 of the first campaign so only another 52 episodes to go.....

And let's not forget that Dr Who kicks off the new series on Sunday 7 October.

Best wishes,

The Cry - a psychological thriller with this rather gorgeous young lady, who is proving herself a damn fine actress with every performance she gives.

The Flu That Killed 50 Million

An excellent documentary about the 'Spanish Flu' of 1918.

I have on the shelf "The Great Influenza: the Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History", by John M. Barry. Basically, it gives the impression that the flu helped to kickstart modern medical science: it is amazing to read how backwards medicine and medical understanding were, at the turn of the century, even in the most prestigious universities, both in Europe and the USA.
