With the holiday sale on, I noticed you can now get Harpoon Ultimate for just $15.99

The $25 discount code stacks with the holiday sale price
($40.99 download version - $25 = $15.99)

Personally I was waiting for a good deal, this convinced me to take the plunge.

If you own both H3ANW and HCE (I suppose you own at least one of that because you said you are entitlted to the $25 discount) then it is worthless to buy HUE. It's still a waste of money unless you do want to have all those old versions.

Actually the older versions are worth it alone in my mind. $16 is a steal.

Just out of pure curiosity, why?

I barely have time to fit in the most current versions of any wargame I own. Why would one want to play earlier versions?

Some people will only play H3 3.6.3. They finally have the ability to do that with the Ultimate Edition Package. Some people will only create scenarios in H3 3.6.3. By making scenarios in 3.6.3 you can play them in any newer H3 version assuming there is also database support. You lose some scenario design features but you gain a wider audience. If you create H3 scenarios with the newer scenario editors it is more difficult to keep your scenario operational (you'll end up running a utility or resaving the scenario with each new database version you want it to work with, and most often game version as well).

Some people like the old DOS versions of HC so that they can play them in DOS emulators on iPads and other mobile devices.

And then some crazies like me just like to have as many versions as possible. Some even crazier like to use them to say "this used to work, fix it!"

Despite little change in outward appearance, both series of games have changed immensely internally and scenarios do play differently on the different versions. Having a lot of different versions let's the players who are that concerned play in whatever version they desire.

Thanks for the explanation. That all makes sense, but wow what a complex situation!
