machitis -> Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 2:43:15 PM)

Early game, I'm engaged in a minor war, and my capital planet gets hit with an Earthquake. Ravages my economy. I keep my military going from my cash stores... but I ramp-down construction just enough to keep the war at a stand-still, hoping to make peace.

Just as my capital is starting to pump out money again, ANOTHER earthquake hits it. It's not long until I can no longer hold the line, and enemy starts pushing me back.

Similar double-dip disasters at my capital crippled me in two consecutive games... I ended up turning off the disasters, then. I like the idea, but they are either too harsh, or I'm just crazy unlucky.

Nedrear -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 2:58:40 PM)

You are unlucky. And that is the fun in this disaster game. You never know what happens.

Data -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 2:59:54 PM)

Yap, you'll have tons of fun finding it out....so much fun it's not even funny [:)]

machitis -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 3:27:07 PM)

I think that's kind of my point: it was happening so much that it wasn't fun.

Gelatinous Cube -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 3:27:58 PM)

Indeed.. got hit by an Earthquake in my game as the Slukens, and it killed half the population on my homeworld. Went from being the 2nd most powerful Empire to the 2nd worst. And then the refugees showed up. The Universe has a mean streak this time around! [sm=00000055.gif]

Nalim27 -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 3:28:17 PM)

  Maybe alrorithm for disarter creation shloud be updated a little to do keep some time between two disasters - 6 months? 1 year? 3 years? or more or less?. Maybe that value can be configurable on game settings   page.
And for hardcore players this can be turn off to allow completely random disarters (every week if he is unlucky :-) ).

  Or maybe that disarter-safe time can be releated to Game difficulty slider - harder difficulty will descrease this disarter-safe time.

ehsumrell1 -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 3:36:58 PM)

I believe that the game is set where colony disasters happen at least
two years apart. I bet you either just got unlucky getting hit in the
same colony twice, don't have a lot of colonies (5 or less) OR your
colony sits on something similar to the San Andreas Fault line of Earth!

In that case ----> [sm=scared0018.gif]

If you do not like random events stop moaning and turn it off.I love random game changing events personally and the point of them is to stop gameplay being suited to your comfort zone.

And it does that pretty well. I've made more strategic decisions based off of Characters and Disasters in the first decade of a Legends game than I normally make in the entirety of an RotS game.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 4:11:50 PM)

Extremely unlucky, I'd say. To have your capital hit twice in a row in the early game is hard to deal with. In my experience, it's not typical either.

If we see a pattern now that Legends is released that disasters are happening a bit too often, we can easily make adjustments.

I'd recommend giving them another chance, but I understand you may want to wait a while. [8D]

There always seems to be a managable gap between incidents for me, the only one that is annoying when it double hits is the research, playing at 999k per tech and you get to 96% and then there's an incident and its back to 4% its like DOH!!!

Nalim27 -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 5:21:24 PM)

Good to hear that Erik.

One question - are AI players hit by disasters too? And if yes then is there any possibility to know that someone has been hit by disarter? That information can be very precious .... maybe player intelligence agents can get that information from foe empires:
1. Lord Nalim, our agent 007 come with information that XYZ empire capital was hir by earthquake size 10
2. Call to arms! Fill torpedoes bays and Rum barrels to full capacity and entire fleet attack those XYZ rats, because they did not pays peace fee to us.
....

Moaning? I thought we were encouraged to provide feedback on our experience here? Was I mistaken?

Don't get me started on this one, I'm 22 years into a game, and have yet to research a single High-Tech project as it keeps getting reset
Been reset about 7 or 8 times now

Edit: Also, surely there should be positive events as well? I've only seen negative ones (aka disasters), so I don't really have a gameplay reason to have events active by the looks of it

Absolutely, you should see such information as one of the galactic news net messages as long as you have discovered the affected AI faction and are aware of the affected system.

No, please continue to provide feedback and don't take the other posters too seriously. I agree that was a bit rude, but it's within normal bounds for the internet where having a thick skin is a bit mandatory. We don't allow personal attacks on our forum, but this kind of banter is normal among gamers.

Could you upload a save file please? This can also be very bad luck, but it's worth making sure nothing odd is happening.

There are also positive events that can give you research breakthroughs and other benefits.

- Erik

w1p -> RE: Very Unlucky (11/25/2011 7:09:09 PM)

positives include getting a research breakthrough that makes your current research topic crash (triple speed researching normally cost's an arm and leg). I had it triple reset the same research topic three times ina a row, first time near 85% second time near 60%, third time 75% ish but that was just unlucky I think. I have put a stupid amount of hours into this game since it came out and havn't

On the flip side, I always queue up my research in high tech (I research as much colonizing tech as possible) and it started a crash on what i was researching, then on what I had queued!! YES!!!

Although if you have a research reset on something that is crashed, does it lose the crash status???

The research project should retain the crash status - you'll continue researching at high-speed after the critical research failure

Do planets have differnt disaster rates?  Maybe it's wise to relocate to a safer planet.
